My tip(s) won't stay on my J/B

The past month has been rough for my jump break. The first three tips to come off were Tiger Icebreakers....I loved the tip, but I had a problem with them cracking. It was probably just an older batch of the tips but I thought I would try something a little different to experiment. I put on a white diamond tip and it too popped off. I am not doing these tips myself and I trust the guy who is doing them. Do yall know of a simple solution to get these tips to stay on my darn shaft? Maybe a different glue or something?

If the first one broke, when was it put on? Was it the original tip? If it was not the original, did the same guy put on both tips? If so, I would start to suspect to person replacing the tip.

I swear by Tough Tip by Cue Components ! You can hardly get a tip off when this glue is used .

Hope this helps .

Improving jump cue tip

I hear a single piece ferrule / tip combination using Phenolic material with a Shore D scale hardness of less than 90 or greater than 95 might work.

:D

Maybe the installer is using some old/bad glue?

Then tips "pop off", that is usually the case.

Sounds about right. The guy doing your tips might want to invest in an epoxy adhesive. Either that or he's not properly preparing the two surfaces for gluing. Phenolic and resin are a tad bit different than leather.

or perhaps the ferrule has a bit of movement when breaking. This would definately cause multiple tips to fly off. Inspect the ferrule for movement.

THIS WAS THE FRST THING THAT POPPED INTO MY HEAD.....

IF NOT, I'D SAY IT'S BAD GLUE.

glue

QuikTrip super glue, never had it fail with a tip.

Had my cuemaker put on a phenolic tip. It came off with the 4th break.
Put it back on with superglue, and it has been fine ever since.

I had a j/j that I couldn't keep a tip on for anything. Finally just had the ferrule changed out to a one piece tip.

Funny you say that because I have a J/J...same problem. I think I might go with a different short ferrule for jump cues and stick with the white diamond tip... I hear this is a pretty good combo

Tip

I would have the ferrule changed out when you put the next tip on. sound like they are using some type of plastic that even loctite has trouble sticking to, I have had this problem in the past and changing the ferrule fixes it. just my .02

loctite

All I ever use on the ice breaker the white diamond and the phenolic tips is loctite. Glue both surfaces liberally allow glue to sit a few seconds and apply slight pressure.
I have one customer that repeatedly pops the tip of he uses high inside to break with. I shaved the tip thickness down by 1/2 and this lessened the off-angle pressure. He hasnt popped it off again yet.

The trick to a good glue joint is ensuring BOTH surfaces are FLAT! Check flat with new razor type blade when holding up surface to bright light. When both surface are dead flat..then scribe/scratch both surfaces up a llittle and glue with Loctite gel and you are good to go.

Tiger Glue !

I have been useing Tiger Glue for as long as I can remeber and I have never had a tip come off yet !
I even use it to glue Corals to base rock in my Saltwater Fish tanks. Even the corals never come off and there under saltwater there whole life ! LOL

Not sure why your tip is flying off other than your super powerful break, but i would consider some type of 1 piece ferrule/tip combo...Just pm Gulyassy..he can take care of it for you.

IMHO, it is usually not the glue but the method of installation.

1. Most people use too much or not enough pressure to hold the tip while the glue is curing.
2. Both the tip and the ferrule need to be scuffed.
3. Like stated, make sure both surfaces are flat and parrallel.
4. Make sure your glue is not too thin. For phenolic/synthetic tips, gels work better.
5. I would not use a fast set epoxy. 12-24 hour cure time is best.

Hope that helps.
