My Visit To The IPT Office And Conversation With Deno Andrews

Let's put the math & # of tables question to rest. Let's just say it is a lot of tables and a lot of money to pay union workers to bring them in the door.

ESPECIALLY in Chicago. :P

I got to deal with unions there in '96, working for CNN and setting up/breaking down for the Dem convention there that year. Night and day compared to the same setup/breakdown in San Diego two weeks before for the Rep convention.

Roadie,

I answered your appeal, LAST week. I have done much to try to secure the funds for the players. As I stated previously, kt is a renegade, he is not listening to me, you or any of his staff.

Furthermore, i don't have any particular disdain for kt, not anymore than I would for anyone toying with the lives of my friends. I think you understand that is where i am coming from.

As far as any outside remdy is concerned, the only way i could help is to actually buy the ipt, which is probably not a bad idea.

There does remain 2 specific problems with this idea.

I have valued the ipt at around 3 or 4 million dollars. Any prospective buyer, absorbs the debt, and any remaining contracts in affect. This will certainly include any agreements in place regarding future payments to versus to continue airing their programs.

The only viable assest that the ipt has is that the touris already in place, and the marketing "machine has already begun. The qualfiying program is also in place. Television programing, as i stated is a debit.

the two problems are:

1) can kts books be trusted? Big question, but is secondary, because a reasonable person can make make educated assumptions.

2) the second problem addresses a moral question. Imo, the biggest, yet untapped asset of the ipt, is "forcing" the ipt members to sign an exclusivity contract to perform ONLY for the ipt. to me, this would be the only reason to pursue a bailout. Those that know me though, understand I am completely pro player, and could never enslave them like that.

Granted, I havea lot of money, but not enough to just throw it out. I wont live long enough to make any foolish investments back.

BTW, if i thought hiring high powered attorneys could solve this, believe me, I WOULD pick up the tab. But after speaking with several top players, NO ONE is willing to draw a line in the sand with kt, making an "US" versus "them" situation.

All of my attempts to contact the ipt have remained unanswered. I am easily reached, as quite a few in this industry have my number.

Instead of just saying, "do something", come up with a specific solution, i'm all ears. If it is viable, and will help the players, I AM ALL IN!

Deno's credibility at this point is way down below ground level, particularly after the Inside Pool Magazine article. Deno's responses and attitudes (me this, me that, my staff, I dont permit this, we are not that way, that will never happen, bla, bla, bla), clearly demonstrates he is a pompous, arrogant, deceiving kind of guy. (I reserve the real word I would call him).

Deno is not a high class individual. He is just another low-lifer that dresses in nice clothes.

He was the wrong man for the job. PERIOD! Of course, KT may have wanted a flunky, who would be his personal "yes man". After all he learned from Sigel.

Bottom line...Don't send a boy to do a man's job!

Text this to Deno, since he has a lot to learn about sales & integrity. The worst thing you can do when trying to sell something (which is what KT & he have been trying to do to the pool world) is make a promise you can't keep. Don't tell the customer that you can have new tires put on the car if your boss won't allow it. Don't tell the customer that you have a different size or color in the back room if you don't have it. Don't tell them what the special of the day is if the kitchen already ran out. Don't tell the pool world.....

Real Pool, Real Rules, Real Money

if you don't have any money.
Always keep in mind that some things can be controlled and some cannot.
As a salesman I've been told things by my managers that I believed to be true. I go out and tell my customers this new wonderful thing will be available soon as I was told. Then I find out months later that the project was scrapped for some reason and apparently they didn't feel it important to tell us in the field. I look like a liar to some or less than trustworthy to others. All I did was pass on information I was told was the truth.

Deno has been promoting cue sports for many years. If I were him and really wanted to help give the game more respect I'd probably get on board with a guy like KT if he came to me with the proposal. Just don't blame Deno for something he may have no control over. As outsiders we have no idea what all the issues are. All we know is the effects of their decisions. We don't know the details that brought that or those decisions.
And I'll bet Deno played a minor roll in the big ones.

Don't shoot the messanger.

What's the deal here?

When all is said and heard, sides will be chosen and stances will be taken. The bottom line is simple: What needs to be done to make it all right? Relax, let it shake out, for whatever the outcome, pool has never seen such focus. Good for Kevin. Good for Deno. Good for Greg and Diamond Billiards. You may step up and throw your dart, at who you think needs a stab, but at the end of the day, I would ask you to answer one quetion: "What have you done to advance our game?"

I guess if the players aren't willing to stand up for themselves when someone of your means has offered to help then they are due exactly what they ask for and must contend with what they are given.

Perhaps Mr. Andrews should resign his position. It is important to remember however that this is still an organization which is quite opaque to those not inside of it. In the wake of such scandals such as that with Enron and Worldcom and a host of others perhaps we have come to be much wiser and much more cynical in regards to companies that don't keep their promises.

Perhaps Mr. Andrews will be a little less pompous about the $1000 dress code violations he bragged about handing out while announcing at a few of the matches broadcast on the internet.

In any event he apparently believes in whatever steps his employer is undertaking at the moment. It is conceivable that Mr. Andrews is rightly being deluged with inquiries at the moment. And with words such as scam and fraud being bandied about he might even be a little worried about being caught up in some sort of investigation pertaining to either the IPT or any of Mr. Trudeau's other activities.

Let's not add the threat of being "blackballed" to Mr. Andrew's list of issues he is dealing with.

Mr. Helfert, it might be fair to say that the treatment that you reported to this forum at the hands of the IPT is coming back on them in spades.

Just a quick update. I talked to CJ Wiley last night , according to him the players still haven't been paid.

Too Bad for the Players

I had originally posted a number of doubting Thomas remarks about the Tour and especially KT. My weblog post on the subject, way back in July, has really gotten popular with visitors lately. (http://www.grabers.com/library/kbase/archives/2006/07/kt_and_the_grea.php)

Just from what I've read, my take is that any deal 'to sell the tour' probably doesn't exist. Period. This is all part of a pattern with KT-based organizations: He's a master at the sizzle, but not the steak.

Keep in mind that Trudeau has made a fortune doing what he does and could easily cough up the cash. But this runs counter to his nature and his business sense. Different things are at play here. Everyone else involved is just window dressing, DA included.

When the smoke clears, I think you have a fatally-wounded brand with limited credibility with its key audience.

My sense is that the pool world just got hustled...

when businesses do business and customers and employees feel like whats being offered isnt enough. The only person who isnt screwed is the one with all the money.

Book Lawyers(not trial) have never been able to do much but prolong the wait and then offer the final words of disenchantment.

Books on what KT wrote is like a compilation of every study of natural vitamins and minerals, one could find them in the encyclopedia.
