Recently picked this cue up. It has no name on it, so looking for someone that can take an educated guess as to it's possible maker. Cue was either not completed or was in the process of being refinished. All materials are top notch, delrin butt cap, ebony butt sleeve and nice birds eye forearm. It has the feel of a old Joss or Josswest. Definitely a older cue, maybe from the 60's or 70's. Possible ivory ferrule, and needs a wrap. Cue came from out East.

Any Guesses?

Joint is 5/16x14 and ferrule is definitely ivory. real quality cue that needs to be finished.

Thanks!

I originally thought early Joss and contacted Dan. He said he probably wouldn't remember it even if he made it, so guess he didn't want to take a look. A local cue expert hazard a guess it could be a early Bill McDaniel, thought I'd try to find his contact info. if somebody has it. Sized up the cue last night, hit a few balls with it and it plays fine. It is 60 inches long. Thought that was a little unusual for a cue of this age. Thanks guys for the guesses, anybody else?

Just a guess here, but it might be an early Richard Black maybe? That
weight bolt looks kinda familiar. Can't hurt to shoot him an email. Nice
cue.

tough one there. never seen those rings, ever. weight bolt is very common, but notice it is shiny, not tarnished like old old cues. Is the weight bolt steel, or alum? If steel, it may not be that old. Also, what's the joint dia?

just shooting from the hip here...

More Info.

Bill Stroud has been gracious enough to look at my pictures of the cue. Will let you know what he thinks on this one. Bill is a real gentleman and class act. Hope he recognizes the cue.

I hope it's Bills work.

It looks so familiar to me. Did you get it in NY?

I remember seeing something like it a couple of decades ago. I can't remember the owner or the context.

It might have been at Park Ave Billiards in Deer Park or South Shore Billiards in Bay Shore.

Sorry for my uselessness.

Well?

Bill says it's not a Joss or Josswest. Cue came from the Southeastern part of US. I like the cue, but it's a little long for me. I prefer standard length. Cue needs to be finished, forearm has lathe marks in it, as if it was never completed. Cue as you can see needs a wrap and bumper. If you would like to buy it to finish it or are interested in it for it's components, let me know.

More Clues!

Here are a few more clues. Took the weight bolt out and the butt cap and ebony sleeve slide right off. Here are the pictures. The extra shaft is from my 1983 Joss the pilot and collar look similar but not exactly the same.

Still a ?

Going to put this one to rest. Looks like it will remain a mystery. I will post some pictures when the cue has been completed and in new condition. Let me know soon if you are a cue builder that would like to buy this one and take on the project. Plan to have it done locally otherwise, it's going to be real nice when completed.

Early scruggs?

Could it be a 1980 or earlier Scruggs? He didn't have a logo in the early couple of years. The forearm birdseye has similiar grain and staining to others I have seen from that time. The stainless steel joint certainly looks like his, thich collare at the facing and the brass insert in the shaft is just like his.

Thanks!

Thanks for your input. Not sure how to get hold of Tim. I will try to send some pictures.
Thanks Much

I do not belive it is a Mcdaniel. I have owned a few it does'nt look like his work.

Thanks!

The latest on this one is, it could be a early Scruggs. His early cues were not signed I'm told. What do you think? Looks like I can scratch McDaniel off the list, thanks.

Joss?

Had some knowledgeable folks here tell me this one is most likely a early Joss. although it apparently was never finished, forearm still rough, and it has been played lots. If someone wants to take on this project contact me soon. I'll let this one go for $400, as is, shaft has slight wobble, rolls good on table, no lift in tip.

Refinish1

The refinish is almost done on this cue and it is an absolute knock out. Will post some pictures when I get it back. Also waiting to hear from Dan Janes, sent him some pictures. thanks again for everyone's input.
