This reminds me of yrs ago 60-'s and 70's, the Alaskan Pipeline, and all the money made in the bars gambling. Wonder if any players are taking advantage of this NOW, my guess No. Why, from my perspective, the culture of young great players nowadays might think its too...........out of their comfort zone?........any young gamblers taking advantage of Boom Town? Not much else to do up there, if I was young again, I'd be there.

Well, no responses pretty much answered my own question....but there might be a few 50 yr olds headin' up there one would think. Anywho, if your broke, you might find the lack of things to do in the winter up Nort' don't ya know, to be found on a pool table.

I just heard about myself Friday so my guess is that no one knows about it. The Radio mentioned that they were looking for strippers or should I say screening strippers. The request was for photo's because not just any stripper that showed up would be hired. Where there are strippers there is money, drinks and pool.

there is some playing in the bars with big strong oil workers that are drinking.

the towns arent real big and most of the workers stay out in the camps.
virtually impossible to find a place to stay unless you have a camper.

it is frigid cold and the wind blows hard once winter sets in.

this is why players are not hanging around there.

Pretty hard to find an open table around here, I've been in williston my whole life and it's crazy the amount of people here. There are some pretty good local players, but most of us don't even go out anymore, it just isn't safe. I won't bet against anyone I don't know, chances are pretty good you'll get your face kicked in even if you only win 20 bucks . There are a few big money players in town, but it would probably be hard getting a game with them.

The sad reality is that most of the people that have come here don't have betting money for pool because it costs about 3 grand a month to live here.

If you get into a bad game with a Rig Pig, you'll have a hard time getting out of the bar. They work hard and play even harder. I don't like being around them.

At least with the cold weather, the strippers nips will stay harder longer.

That sounds like a perfect place for one night only, for old Pots and pans. Bernie would turn a place like that out and leave them scratching their heaads for months. LOL
When he and Dave Nottingham teamed up I near LMAO. Dave was the heavy and the only problem with that, Dave was afraid of Demi Moore! LOL

All ya gotta do, bring your own tush hog :). Yrs ago, I knew a gal that wanted to hook while I played during the Alaska pipeline, I declined just because it wasn't my style, but she Did want to go.

You should go with Neal he would go for that. LOL

maybe they are strippers like in South Padre island, the hips all point north and south!! LOL
John hager bought me a table dance with one on Social Security!!

Is that all he could afford?
Off the table Mable. The five bucks is for the beer.

Right now Fort MacMurray (Northern Alberta) has been booming for a few years with all the refineries being built.
I hear the hookers are doing a brisk business too. Coffee shops, etc, are closing early because
you can't get people to work them, even for 20 an hour. Like as in, even making 20 an hour, you still can't
afford the cost of living up there.

I used to be a truck driver most of my life and worked heavy equipment. If I wasn't married, I'd be up there like white on rice.
Should send some good players with a tush hog up there. I would think it considerably safer anywhere where there isn't any rig pigs.
These guys like to get rid of their money and getting 100 dollar games probably wouldn't be hard for a start.

I feel like I've been living uder a rock. I Googled some articles about the boom. This is the first that I've seen this about ND. It really is the wild west again.

It is. I live approx 120 miles from the Montana border straight south and
approx 120 miles from the ND border. The area of Canada just north of the ND border has seen an oil boom now for many years. Good land down there
so it stands to good reason that the area just south of the Canadian border would be booming as well. Good stuff. We have so much oil in the province of Saskatchewan, yet we are getting hooped at the pumps. Most of it taxes.

The folks that live in the border towns just jump across for a little cross border shopping and good gas prices. Buggers!
I'd be drinking American beer and smoking Marlboros if I was closer.
Maybe I can get someone to slip a box or two of Marlboros in with my next order of cue supplies.
That would be a real treat for a change.

Take it from a former Marlboro smoker, get yourself some American Spirit smokes and you'll never go back. All natural, all tobacco. Would rather not smoke than smoke anything else at this point.
