Nature vs Nurture: New study in favor of Nature

John's wrong about lots of stuff, but he's absolutely correct when he says you won't play him again for the same amount, or close to it.

Personally, I don't think you're afraid to play him. In fact, it's probably a smart move on your part. Sure, you won the match, but you didn't run him over like a lot of people thought you would. Because of this you of all people probably realize that you don't have to win if you play him again. You were the better player, but not by much. On any given day, either of you is capable of beating the other, but is no more than a 55% favorite in my opinion.

I'd love to see a rematch, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

More like 80-20

Thanks all for the comments about the book: The Sports Gene. I just got it in my mailbox. Now, if I can stop procrastinating enough to actually read it:)

Wrong about lots of stuff? Like what?

:-)

I am never wrong when on the path to knowledge.

John's wrong about lots of stuff,<--You got that right ! but he's absolutely correct when he says you won't play him again for the same amount, or close to it..<--I know for a fact, you are 100% wrong about that !
....On any given day, either of you is capable of beating the other, but is no more than a 55% favorite in my opinion.... <--Looks to me like the final score, made Lou a 9 to 6 favorite..(Thats almost 70%) and Lou played as bad, and as doggie as he possibly could have ! :o

I'd love to see a rematch, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sorry Mr. Lvr, but you have just lost ALL credibility with me (and many others) as a one pocket handicapper...
...I find it hard to believe you actually watched their match !

PS..One Stroke had it right, its more like 80/20 ! :p

didn't have the money skills to manage a "one flavored sno - cone stand"

So you never played with a guy named Scotty in Ft. Worth? There's several golfers that swear you played with him regularly and lost an average of $30 a day.....they also say you were not a very good golfer, although you "thought" you were.......that's actually easy to believe considering all the other BS you try to throw around about yourself.

It's common knowledge that you were a "good playing short stop" and didn't have the money skills to manage a "one flavored sno - cone stand" :groucho: - these are quotes from other people, not me.

You must've missed it...You should stop typing, long enough to read a post or two occasionally ! :o

...Your imaginary, made-up, golf bulls**t ended several pages ago, when you had no reply to this !

OK. I think you won't play. You said you won't. So I believe you. You are however free to change your mind. We will see when the time comes if you do.

This is another example of why no one should ever take a word you say at face value.

I said, "...I’m guessing some of you are wondering: will there be a rematch?

After due reflection, I would say probably not. It is not something I am interested in doing and frankly I have nothing to prove — not about whether I will show up to play, not about whether I can play for $10K, not about whether I can 'get in the grease,'not about whether I am the better player, and certainly not about CTE. But, I’m not willing to say never, just: probably not."

IOW, the door is still open, just enough, so that you have no clue.

Well.....another poker quote is that it is immoral to leave a sucker with money.

I will always have both more money and heart than anyone who needs backers to play a sucker.

I just have to say I thought your line "well what was I saying" when you first came back was
really funny !!!

Sorry CJ..In your ongoing effort to put me down, you have screwed up again !..I don't remember anyone named 'Scotty' but if I did play him, I'm sure $30 would have been about the right amount I'd lose. I only played sociable golf..You need to broaden your horizons, and speak to a few people who actually knew me...Several are still alive..If Bill Childs is still around Ft. Worth, we used to play often together....His family was quite wealthy (Construction I believe) and were members at Shady Oaks CC, when Hogan moved there from Colonial !...Boy what a treat it was to play that Private club....I told you we traveled in different social circles !

You see, I was only joking about my skills as a golfer, but I guess that sailed right over your head, eh ?..I was never very good at golf, and I knew it...I Never picked up a club until I was about 30..Maltbie used to play all the way around a long tough, course..with just a 4 iron, (driving, sand traps, putting etc) and give me a stroke a hole, and win. But we had a good time together, playing $50 nassau's..I may have actually won a few times !

The only people I ever gambled high with (at golf) were fellow pool players, like RA and Greg Stevens, both of whom I needed about 5 or 6 a side from, to have an even game. (and we exchanged a LOT of $$$$ over the years) In fact, I still have Greg's clubs, he hocked to me, after his last bad beat..RA and I, were usually too busy playing pool, to get in very much golf..Golf can be tough, after a 40-50 hr. pool session !

I know it upsets you, because I can see through your feeble efforts, at trying to BS all your fan's (both of them) with your 'SECRET' high level tips on pool :o.. You were a decent player, (9-ball only of course)..but when it comes to TALKING about pool, you are an absolute joke !..You should stick to martial arts or yoga !..Some of your silly stuff, like 'squeezing the farrell' before each shot, is a little hard to take !

You are obsessed with trying to impress people, but almost ALL good players laugh at the way you go about it. Sorry if it chaps your ass, that there are so few players on this forum, so I have taken it upon myself to point out your MAJOR character flaws, like you ATTEMPT to point out mine ! ..Keep trying though, eventually you'll find something about me you won't have to FABRICATE in order to hurt my 'feelers'.

If you would ever stop typing, and talking about yourself for a while, you could take a little time and check the archives, both here and on onepocket.org..You will find that there have been enough compliments thrown my way, (by guys like Buddy, Jay H., Frost, etc.) that I really do not need to 'blow my own horn'...But thats OK..you just keep seeking out the "Scotty's", who will tell you all the things about me you want to hear !..Also, try and look up Bill Childs, (he should be about 60 now) he used to own a pool room (on E. Lancaster) I managed the Card Room upstairs for him..No limit hold'em, with guy's like Doyle Brunson, Sailor, Amarillo Slim, and Strauss, often sitting in...It was a little more demanding, than a 'One flavor' snow-cone store ! :D

SJD-Former PTA touring pro ! <-I will go a little slower for you, so maybe you can tell when I'm being facetious

PS..Are you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SURE you are not related to John Barton ?..You guys both like to dabble in the supernatural, and talk in riddles !.. In fact, if you were to just swap the CTE and TOI harping, and somehow blend your half page logo's together, no one would be able to tell you apart ! :o :o :o ;)

You are always recommending books.
Heres one YOU really need to read !

Uh-oh. It appears we have a CJ fan on the hook !..I wonder if you could explain your reasoning for that assumption

So far even hizzoner CJ himself, appears to be at a loss for words..I ask you, how rare is that ???..Aren't you the same guy I complimented in post #114, who admitted to being unable to grasp ANYTHING 'pool related' ? :frown:

I will show him patience and tolerance, it's the most I can do

I did feel sorry for him until I found out how brutal and disrespectfully he treated other people....now I just pity an old man that drank his life away with nothing to show for it but bitterness and insulting behavior. I will show him patience and tolerance, it's the most I can do - 'The Game is the Teacher'

CJ seems like a nice guy. He is also a legend both on and off the table. I don't use TOI - I'm fairly set in my ways- but it seems that there are a lot of people who say it has improved their game. I've watched some of his videos on YouTube and he certainly knows what he's talking about. The only thing I can see CJ being guilty of is being too nice, overly generous with his views and standing by what he says (backed up with a lot of personal success).

Regardless of this, this thread isn't about dumping on CJ and JB, but this seems to be the way that interesting threads go at the moment.

Mark, you are certainly entitled to your interpretation of how things transpired. Most of the animosity is the result of a long running feud with JB, which by extension, came to include CJ, for siding with him. You are correct in saying, most threads, if they go long enough, will wind up in some sort of 'choosing sides' or 'piling on' !..Could be why the mod's tried to move the 'aiming system' threads

You may be missing a few of the finer points, in this particular instance... If you think CJ is 'overly polite' I must ask you, if you have seen the shots he has taken at me, in just this thread alone.. I may be old, but I am not a bitter drunk who has wasted his life, being jealous of anyone (except maybe Arnold Palmer ;)) I have never claimed to be a better player, or more financially successful than CJ, but I am secure, and content, and I'm pretty sure I'm a better person !

CJ is what we called, in my day, an "apple polisher"..His EVERY comment, and inference, involves self-promotion, and self-adulation !..I do confess that I bristle easily at those traits, and I do tend to push his (and JB's) buttons, probably a little too often.

If he should ever care to apologize for some of the falicies and dissing he has heaped on me, I would consider letting up on him !...Until then, I would be willing to wager, who is more respected, and who has made the most 'quality' friends in the pool world..He may not even care, but I think he knows he would lose big time there !...And that is where HIS envy, and animosity comes to the forefront !
