Need a new tip, which is best (of the big 3)

I like Kamuis too, but I hear a lot of good things about ultraskins (and they are about half the price of Kamuis) if you wanted to go a less expensive route. I'm not rich by any means, but I just don't feel like $20 for a tip you prefer is that ridiculous considering how long they last. I mean, if a tip only lasts you 4 months that's still only $1-$2 a month over choosing a less expensive tip and, as my Grandpa always used to say, "I would pay $2 to watch a monkey f***."

well $20 ($35 installed) for a first class A++ tip seems like a bargain
I spent more than that on Beer, Pizza & Table rent last Friday

Tallying the votes it looks like the "Kamui Fans" have it

I see that McDermott uses the Tiger Everest tip on even their cheapest US made cues, the GS Series ($210-$235)

but not on their "Manufactured globally" secondary brands. Star, Lucky, Element $32.50+ which seem to use a un-named Chinese tip

Their Mid-Line cues: The G Series w/ G-Core shaft($255-$699) also use the Tiger Everest
but
Their Up-Line Series: G Series w/ Intimidator Shaft ($750-$2,050) use the Kamui Black Tip

Conclusion: McD seems to feel that while the Tiger Everest is worthy of their top selling cues, their most expensive products get the Kamui

G2 or Zan premium, my vote goes to Zan just...

Tiger Onyx and Sniper are also nice tips.

I used Kamui or Moori tips.

SOFT

I cant tell any difference.

The OLD ORIGINAL MOORI mediums were the best tip I ever used, but they are no more.

Best of rolls,

Ken

As many have mentioned if you go with the Kamui I would go with the soft. They play a bit harder than other tips.

My .02 I prefer the orignal over the blacks but I'm probably in the minority.

Kamui (Brown med clear) is OK.... miscue a bit much for my taste. The black tips have a bit of a spongy feel to them that I'm not too thrilled about. same with ultraskin. Great playing tip, but I've had to scuff and shape (demushroom) it way more often than a Kamui. Next on my list to try is either a G2 or Ki-tech. I absolutely loathe Everest tips. I tried using the one that came standard on my Jacoby edge hybrid shaft, I replaced it very shortly after. Zan tip seemed to add deflection to my cue.

If you originally liked a LePro tip, but wanted something a little different, I would suggest the Moori or the Everest.
If you originally liked the Triangle, but wanted something a little different, I would suggest the Sniper.
If you did not like the LePro or the Triangle at all, then you might want to try the Kamui as they have a different unique hit.

As far as consistency of play goes, I feel the Sniper plays the most consistent throughout the life of the tip. It will play pretty much the same a month from now as it does when you put it on. Whereas the other tips tend to get harder and play differently over time. For some players that means the tips play better with age and for some who want the softer feel the tip had originally they play worse.

So there is no best tip. The best option for you is what you like once the tip is broken in.

G2 med if your hard shooter get the soft if your a softy lol just my 2 sense I was a big Kamui guy but don't care much for glazed doughnuts hahaha. It's all preference but u will burn up a couple kamuis scuffin them to keep grip an same feel vs g2

Ken really hit the X-Ring on the Bullseye with his endorsement of Moori original tips.....got lucky and these tips were on my Prewitt cue when it arrived and there's a big difference.......better than any other tips by a long shot.

To me a bargain sounds like a two dollar and fifty cent triangle that I put on myself. But hey, I use old newspapers for shoes too.

The more I talk to people about this game, the more I hear “it’s not the cue, it’s the tip” that most affects your shot.

The Cocobolo wood and Ivory Inlays don’t help your shot; any straight piece of maple will do, so long as you have a properly installed and maintained high quality tip

With that in mind my plan is to have the finest tip available professionally installed on my “El-Cheapo” (but straight) Cue

:sorry:

That might be okay for a bar box, but it will not do good on a 9 footer.

You need a Cadillac Cue on a 9 footer instead of the old Pinto.

I would like to upgrade to one of the "Mid-Grade" McDermott's
G-Series w/ G-Core Shaft
joerackem has them on sale for $216.00 shipped
just trying not to spend the $ right now
figured id get a few more months out of the cheapie with a new tip

I've tried a lot of them over the years, and I've gone back to my old favorite---LePro..lasts forever..holds its shape...get all the spin/draw I need and then some..cheap too!

If you are being serious I would like to know your reasoning behind these thoughts

damn, where do you pay that much for a triangle?
i get mine for 65 cents and they play as good as anything out there, hold their shape and last forever, but as far as a medium hit, no, i'd call them more of a hard tip
for medium i'd go with outsville's ki-tech medium, great deal and you can get like 3 for the price of one kamui, the top 3 needs revision IMHO
good luck in your search
