My cue has the original Triangle it came with new. It's real close to retip time.

There is a full service Billiards dealer near me. So i guess i would have to request that they press the tip or is this standard practice?
slap one in a vice and crank down on it really tight. then bring it to the cue maker. Get the tip cut to half size and that should do the trick brother.
If you want a hard tip you have many many choices. If you can ask some of the players where you play if they will let you hit a couple of balls with their cue to see how you like what they play with. It may save you some trial and error with different tips. I install tips and i've tried quite a few different tips on my cues over the years and believe me the tip will make a difference in your cue and how it works for you, so don't underestimate the importance of choosing the right tip. If you've been playing with a triangle and you like it that may be your answer. Just have one pressed a little before it's installed and it will be ready without the normal week or two break in period for a new tip (solid tips need a break in period where layered tips usually are good to go right away).
