I am thinking about making the ultimate hustler cue!

I will have a simpson cue as shown and a blank predator 314-2 shaft. How much would it be for he following modifications?

Re: coring, you should take a look at this thread. It should really be done during construction, and not as a modification on a finished cue.

Why would that be the ultimate hustler cue?
Anyone that would fool won't bet anything anyway. What impression are you trying to create? You can't play? You will gamble but can't play? You are a sucker? You are an idiot? You just need a good quality cue, mid range, from a billiard supply. A cue that says, you like to play enough to have your own cue, you may gamble, but says little about your actual speed other then you may just be average to above average. Obviously you have to give the impression you can play some, if you want people to gamble with you.

The biggest problem with what you want to do is it doesn't allow you to play your best if you have to. After a night of playing the idiot with suckers what do you do if they have someone there who can play and will bet? There may be a guy on the stool you can beat out of a thousand while you are wasting your time stalling with suckers trying to win 50 bucks. How can you play the good player now? What do you do now, go to the car and get your real cue and begin playing 10 speeds above what you have been playing all night?

I really learned a lesson years ago while on my way to a tournament. I stopped in a bar and got in a ring game using a house cue and stalling pretty good. I won maybe a hundred. Mean time the next night I am a few towns over playing in the tournament and who is in the second row, the guys from the bar last night where I was doing an act for. Long story short when I came out half the windows in my RV were busted out. If you want to hustle pool just go out and match up with guys who can play and if you are the better player you will take the cash. Either that, or offer big spots that can't be refused to the weaker players called (lamb killing), and play your game or a little under if you want. Either way, you will have a chance to win something and you are a "Pool player". Just my opinion.

I have to ask he question again, who are you going to be trying to play with the Simpson cue? Having said all that, most cue makers could make it into a fair playing cue for a price.

I have to agree

Macguy hits the nail on the head here. The only guys you are likely to fool are youngsters who can't run 4 balls who are looking to take advantage of idiots who can't run 3 balls.

i want this cue for two main reasons....... number one as a kind of joke and number two because its not something you see every day. i dont play at little shitty bars and try to hustle $5 dollar games. i usually match up at q-masters in virginia beach, one of the best pool halls on the east coast. what you explained above is valid, but not accurate for what i want to do with the cue.

I was making reference to the comment "Ultimate hustler cue", It would not be. Reminds me of in COM where Tom Cruse is waring glasses in one hustling scene. Putting on fake glasses doesn't get you action. A silly cue won't either. I remember when Sneaky Pete's first came out. In a short time if someone had a SP it was a knock as soon as they took it out. It was assumed they were a road player of something and people were cautious more so then if you pulled a low end Palmer or Viking. I will say years ago I played a guy names Steve Gumphries, (sp), with an all black cue. He had painted it. Under the paint was a Ginacue.
 
$35 for a linen wrap.
Approximately $50 for a new pin and pilot.
Other work you may or may not have to do, would be cutting down and refinishing the shaft to match, adding trim rings to the shaft to match, etc.
If you get lucky and the shaft and butt diameters and trim are close enough, you could get away with doing it pretty cheap.
I wouldn't want to core it.

I know where you are talking about. I used to go in there from time to time. I had a summer house on Chincoteaque I would use occasionally. I haven't been there in years now.
 
Different strokes for different folks . If the guy wants that cue done , so what . macguy is out of line and probably deserves more than his rv windows busted . Why people act that way amazes me . I could do you makeover but you need to be more specific on what pin you want , ferrel material and length , tip . joint band material and width , etc ... to get an accurate quote . I'm out of line because I have an opinion? I never said anything derogatory to the guy but told the truth. The fact is, if he wants a cue like that, you don't take a crap cue and try to make it play well. You build a good cue and make it look like crap. I doubt you could make anything out of that cue. Ever try to even work on one of those cues? The wood crumbles if you try to even tap it. They are usually not maple but something like Ramin wood. Coring it would be the only real way to do it I would think using that original cue. The work would have to be perfect though because you can't do anything to the outside of the cue.

The best way really, would be to take a plain well made maple cue and add the Simpson stuff with air brush or get a graphic made and apply it to the finished cue. Heck, you could make it on a computer yourself and apply it to the cue then finish it. I have water transfer film like you use on a model car that you could print the simpson stuff on, paint the cue and apply it over the paint then finish it. It would actually be pretty easy. He could just get a half way decent production cue and paint it and make his own Simpson cue without the need of a cue maker. There are lots of ways to do what he wants but starting with that original cue is may be the worst. The end result at best will not be that good.

Good suggestion, macguy.
Stickers might work well.... Have a sneaky made with a wrap on it, and cover the thing above and below the wrap with stickers. Cartoons, or beer, or something else a bit off the wall.
