I recieved a Mcdermott cue from dicks sporting goods as a gift, which i realize isnt anything top fo the line but i needed a good beginner cue, anyhow, i've had it for a little over 2 weeks and the shaft is curved or warped. it seemed straight when i recieved it but now its pretty curved, I don't keep it in my car and i have a case for it. but anyhow there in lies the problem, I do not have the sales receipt for the warranty, and a new mcdermott shaft for the lowest i could find was 80$ and the cue was only 90$. I can buy a whole new cue online for 80$ so i was wondering, first, if anyone knows where to find a cheaper standard mcdermott shaft, second if i should just order a new cue all together, or if I should go with the new shaft. thanks a bunch. sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I would go back to Dicks Sporting Good and ask for one and then send the cue back to McDermott, if one of my customers had this problem I would take care of it for them even if was a gift, to me it is just good customer service.

Hi,
The following is directly from the McDermott website:

Lifetime Warranty against warpage and defects
The only warranty in the business to cover warpage
McDermott Handcrafted Cues warrants its pool cues purchased from an authorized McDermott Cue retailer or distributor to be free of defects in material and workmanship, including warpage, for the lifetime of the product. McDermott will, without charge to the consumer, repair or replace your cue, provided that the claim is accompanied by a copy of the original sales receipt from an authorized McDermott dealer. McDermott does not warrant its product against damage caused by third parties. This warranty does not cover replaceable items such as tip, finish, and wrap. McDermott will fix such items, however, for a fee. In addition, McDermott, at its sole discretion, may void this warranty if there is evidence of abuse or mishandling. To obtain warranty service on a McDermott product, return the product to an authorized McDermott dealer or directly to McDermott. To determine the nearest McDermott authorized retailer or dealer, check out our online dealer listing or contact McDermott directly. Call toll free 1-800-666-2283.

yeah basically a hand me down, like, guy didnt want it, gave it to my mom to give to me basically, so it wasnt purchased online, he got it at a store somewhere, so im wondering if i should just purchase a new cue that way i know i have the warranty. I just cant find any mcdermott shafts under 88 dollars.

If all that fails, your friendly neighborhood cue repair person might have a spare shaft lying around that can be adapted to you butt. Sometimes it may be hard to match-up the joint rings, but it can get you by.

Dicks was able to help me out and my shaft is on its way to mcdermott to get replaced, thanks for all the help everyone.

I had the same problem with my McD shaft. It warped in a week or two. I sent an email to McD and asked how things go with their warpage warranty. They replied that the ferrule of the shaft must be leaving the surface of the table, when you are rolling the shaft. I don´t think i ever saw a shaft which was warped that much...so theirs warranty is not very useful IMHO.
