Need advice on tip

Hi

I just changed my tip on my 314 to Moori Q.

It feels now like I am hitting with a steel rod or a rock. The hit feels too hard with not much feedback at all. Let a couple of friends tried and both said it;s way too hard, feels like a break cue with pheonic tip

Is this the correct expectation for a tip on a 314 shaft?

It came with a everest and I found it too hard, I change to a triangle and i found it too weak(soft).

Before I take this back to the shop to change for the fourth time, any suggestions what tip to use?

PS : I am using a P3.

try the moori medium
 
You might like a Tiger emerald. I do alot! Best I've ever used. Hits like a moori medium but has never shroomed
 
I really like the Kamui soft tip. I also shoot with a 314 and it's the best the tip I've used. I was nervous about using a soft tip because I have always shot with the Moori Hard like you are now, but the guy at the shop kept telling me how great the Kamui was. After taking his word I have had it for a couple of months now I swear I will never go back.
 
I would only recommend triangle,or a good milk dud like pooldawg makes,I have a triangle on my 314-2 and one of the milkduds on my 314,and they bite the ball

I have a lot of customers go with kamui soft or the sniper
for me it's a sniper or kamui black ss. imo

Sounds like your looking for a Medium hit from your cue, and I agree a Moori Q will not give you what you want. Many will say try a Moori Medium, however, about half way through the tips life it will hit like a hard tip. It seems that Moori tips have changed over the last few years in more than just appearance, they seem to compress a lot.

With that said, I have started using and recommending Moori Soft Tips to my customers who are looking for a Medium hit. When I install these tips I press them in a vise before I install them to make them a little harder, at first they mushroom a little, however, after a couple of minor clean ups they are great. But, the best part is that they will transition into a medium hitting tip after they break-in which is very important.

Sniper is a fantastic tip, and runs slightly softer than Everest without being too soft. A lot of people consider it to be the best tip made in America, and a lot of people consider it to be the best tip in the world, period.

What you're going to find is that everyone has different preferences when it comes to cue tips. You could literally find a hundred different threads about tips on this site. Trial and error will help you find the tip best suited for you.
 
Thank you guys for the good and quick advice. :)

I narrowed it down to 2 choice, Kamui black soft or Moori soft.

Hopefully after changing, my play cue will not feel like a break cue.
 
Before you make the change, give a thought to the Everest or the Emerald. Both tips provide a 'medium' feel feedback.
And here's a helpful hint for you. Use your Willard shaper frequently. It keeps the glaze knocked off which can contribute to a hard feeling tip. You do have a Willard shaper, don't you? :wink:
