NEED HELP!!! Flying with a cue

Ok. So I'm headed to Vegas in a week or so to play in a tourney and, obviously, I need to bring my cue with me.

I'll be flying out of Newark and, while they're security isn't necessarily the strongest in the industry, I know they aren't going to let me hop on a plane with my case as a carry on. And I don't want to check it.

Some people have told me that I can FedEx it to the hotel I'll be staying at but that's expensive. Is there any other way? Is there any way I can get away with taking as a carry on? Or perhaps packing the case INSIDE a suitcase?

Thanks in advance.

Plastic golf bag case. You can pack your cues cloths and other effects in this and still have room for everything but golf clubs. This is my method for ten years now.

That's what I was going to do, but plans have been changed. Now, we are just going to drive to Vegas.

I usually travel with a rolling duffle bag that I check through. The duffle is big enough to put a hard cue case inside.
Brian, this is what I have done for the past two SBE's.

You're approaching the porblem all wrong....

Charter a private jet and taking your cue aboard will be no problem. :D :D :D

My porpblem is I cain't frivcking tipe!

The only other option I can think of is if you know someone you can trust who lives in Vegas, or someone who is close enough that will be driving...to just ship the cue directly to them and get it from them once you arrive. Otherwise, instead of FedEx or UPS...you could use USPS Express Mail...which would be much less expensive than the the other two for overnight delivery, (especially with the fuel surcharges). I suspect strongly that Vegas is in a guaranteed overnight zone, due to it's size.

If you are going to ship it to your hotel, I would definitely check with them as to their policies concerning receiving these types of shipments. While I suspect it's all okay, I would make sure as to what their liability is should the cue be received but go missing. Just trying to cover all the bases.

BTW...if you do decide to travel with your cue, make sure you get a TSA-approved lock for your bag. Should they decide to inspect it, and they have to cut a conventional lock off, your items will be unsecured for the rest of the flight.

Too bad they do not sell those exploding dye canisters, like they use in the banks, to the general public. Should someone get into your bag, your stuff may get all ruined, cept the cue, but finding the culprit would be a snap! LoL!!

I travel extensively and almost always take my 2x4 travel package. You can get a FREE fold up and tape tube from FedEx. I place my player, jump cue, break cue & accessories in it and seal it up in the tube. With a permanent marker write your name and phone # on the outside. Then I check it with my bag(s)

Never had a problem. DO NOT lock anything though, they will break your locks.

Good shooting in Vegas,

Ray

Joe Porper does make a very nice airline travel bag.
Kind of like a duffle but insolated to protect against the temp changes that will occur during the trip. There is a large and a small size.
