Need Help Identifying this Cue

A guy brought this cue into the bar tonight and was curious if we could help identify who made the cue!?

Looks to be a piece of Ebony with three large MOP dots on the forearm just above the 70's style wrap. Joint looks like aluminum or SS with a 5/16-14 brass pin; 11 mm ferrule with old champion style (red pad) tip; shaft collar looks like a linen based material; forearm joint has similar linen based material with a silver (aluminum or SS) accent ring; butt has 3 alternating white and black with yellow marbelized plastic rings; white buttcap with a rubber bumper.

Interesting old cue....any info would be appreciated.

everyone thought this was aslo an Abe Rich cue
there are a few in the bluebook, 2nd edition, very similar to this one

Definately looks like a Rich cue. I think this was made before Abe split up with his partner and headed for Florida.
 
that joint is the best indicator of an abe rich cue. i would agree with everyone else.

Did anybody tell ya, it looks like a Doc Fry cue, if you have the 3rd. Blue Book, look at the color photos of the Doc Fry cues on p.48. If it were not for the joint on your cue, I'd say it was a Doc Fry, it still might be. Ya know what, the more I look at your cue and the Doc Fry cue on p.48 of the color photos in the BB-III, I'd say IT IS a Doc Fry and not an Abe Rich, anybody else think so?? Matter of fact, yours is the same cue, as in the photo on p.48, It's a Doc Fry for sure!!

Blue Book 3rd Edition....Value?

Well, if it's a RICH CUE....the Blue Book estimates the value at $115 at 70% up to $255 at 98% for a Level 2 cue with zero points and zero to 25 inlays :confused:
 
Doc Fry

I have a Doc Fry, and the joint is pretty darn close, I would say Fry if it were mine. Look under the bumper, see if there is a coin.
 
Identical match to the Doc Fry cue in the Blue Book! (Brent's cue that is) But, it would be a SWEET find if it is a Fry cue!!!

BBV $700 at 70% up to $,1250 at 98%.

No coin under bumper....piece of wood about the size of a penny -- cracked into 4 pieces.

I am not the foremost authority on the issue but IMO it is a Doc Fry. I have an acquaintance that has played with a similar cue for years and his is definitely a Fry. It has the same style and size ring and the butt looks very close to this cue.

Rich or Fry?

Here is another pic of the butt of this cue. Anybody know of anyone who collects Rich or Fry cues?

The guy to talk to is Mike Walsh. He's a Doc Fry collector, and one of the most knowledgeable guys I know when it comes to the Rich/Fry relationship. He actually told me that one of the Rich/Fry cues in the Blue Book is ID'd incorrectly. His email is: mikewalsh411@comcast.net Tell him "shotgunnersteve" on Ebay referred you. Good luck!

If you did away with the colored butt sleeve work you have devalued the cue to near nothing. It has very little collector value left. It was worth more cracked.

I'm pretty sure yours is a Rich. Here is a pic of my Rich. Brazilian Rosewood forearm. Made in 1971.
