Need help on picking a case configuration.

I have a playing cue with 4 shafts and a break/jump with 1. I need an affordable case that can fit 2 butts/5 shafts. It needs to have good protection and easy to carry to the poolhall. Here's what I've narrowed my choices to.

- 3x7 (instroke)
Pro: can carry it all plus room to spare for another cue
Con: Heavy and hardest of all cases to carry due to size, don't really play with 3rd stick

-3x6 (Whitten, Guiseppe)
Pro: can carry all plus room for one more cue
Con: Whitten is too expensive at the moment, would take a few months to get the cash, Guiseppe doesn't have the level of protection I like.

-3x5 (Instroke, talisman)
Pro: Perfect space for shafts
Con: Wasted space for butt.(i.e. uneeded weight and bulkyness)

-2x6 (murnak)
Pro: No waisted butt space, room for spare break shaft or jump shaft
Con: Murnak cases are out of my price range at the moment, would have to wait a few months.

-2x5 (logoni)
Pro: Perfect configuration
Con: logoni cases not the easiest to carry without shoulderstrap, no individual tube protection.

Anyone have other choices I haven't considered or opinions on what you would buy if you were me?
 
Sounds to me like the best bet for what you need is the Instroke/Talisman 3x5.

I like their cases....and having another butt section space available leaves little (but still some) room for expansion. Worst case, you find a cheaper cue butt to throw in there, as a backup....then you're ready to dance.

Or...if you're so inclined, you can put your cues (already screwed together) on either end of the case...butt first...and have a little "buffer zone" space available so you don't accidentally knock 'em together while pulling 'em out to play.

Do you really need to carry four playing shafts? If you leave one out, you could get down to a 2x4. That opens up a lot more possibilities and saves some weight.

i have the same problem. for the longest time, i carried 6 shafts with me at all times; two breaking shafts of varying weight, two playing shafts and two 'extender bridge' shafts. it might seem a little overbearing, but i've been known to play for quite large sums of money and i need to feel secure with my equipment.

im looking for a 4 by 6 backpack style case. keep in mind, pool is my main source of income so i'd need to have a case that makes me look like a beginner so it doesnt ruin my action. i think i heard somewhere that 'instroke' cases are like that.. but they're too expensive. what other good case brands are there?
 
Instroke cases tend to improve the player's shot-making a bit more than Murnak, however Guiseppe really does the job for speed control...
Talisman cases remove the need for practice altogether.

Personally I use a custom kangaroo skin 2x2 that finally got my jump shots spot on.
 
FWIW I use the Instroke 3 x 5 as you have listed. Yes it's a bit bulky but it works well for me and was within my budget. I actually have 1 free space for another shaft. I carry my J/B (soon to be a Varney!), my playing cue with spare shaft, and my spare cue & shaft that my fiancee usually uses.

I have this case from Pooldawg:
Action Nexus Case

It is a 3 x 5 case, and just the right size for me.
It is $84, with free shipping. Spring loaded butts, good shoulder and handle, separate jump butt pocket with own zipper. I really like having my shafts on one side, and butts on the other. Good all around case without ruining your budget. Better looking in person, 2 textured types of vinyl used on it.
 
your getting a few cues now you also may want to look into one of those dealer type cases on wheels that hols about 12 cues and 12 shafts..check them out at www.billiardcue.com

I've been thinking about that for a while now. When it comes down to it, I just haven't been able to leave the other shaft home. Of the 4 shafts, 2 shafts are a bit over 13mm, and stiff. I play slower games like 1 pocket with these. 2 shafts are 12.75mm I play 7 and 9 ball with these. I don't know why but I have a hard time leaving one of these shafts at home. Some people I know come with 2 cues, with 2 shafts each. I just shoot with 4 shafts on one cue. Lately I've just been putting the break shaft in the 2nd butt tube, the jump section in the jump pouch, and the handle section of the butt sticking out of the big pocket. This led to a small scratch so I decided that I need a new case to hold my cues.

I switched from a 2x4 to a instroke 3x7. Really have liked the instroke. I tend to try out a lot of cue's though, so sometimes I have 2, sometimes 3 that I might want to take with me. Currently have 5 shafts and 2 butts in the case. I don't need to carry that many shafts, but the weight doesn't bug me much in the area I live. If I had to walk more than a mile, or ride a subway with the cue's I wouldn't want to do it.

I think 4x6 cases and trying to look like a beginner are mutually exclusive.

Although, since I started carrying my Instroke perfect strangers have been approaching me for money games. Just the other day a glaucomatous plumber finished working on my sink and I said, "Hey you, Plumber, how much do I owe you?" Upon hearing my voice he stumbled half-blind into my girlfriend's bureau tripped over my Instroke 3x6 and without a moments hesitation said, "Tell you what, I'll play you for it."
 
You're all wrong. Go with the Action 1x1 with the brass-painted plastic zipper. It's the plastic that gets them.

Also, get one of those embroidered 9-ball towels but insist on never playing 9-ball.

Whenever someone asks why you have the towel but never play 9-ball, just look at'em like they're the idiot and reply, "'Cause I always pick stripes, playa."

Isn't this the same guy that was looking for a cue in the $40 range?? This has absolutely got to be a joke....

If you're so dependant upon "big time" gambling for income, you must attract a ton of action with that bridge you have, provided it's you in your avatar.

I seriously have to call bs on this one... I have a friend in Dallas (posts here, as a matter of fact) that I will stake against you for whatever you want. Interested in some action? Or better yet - I'll be back in TX for a few weeks over Christmas and will play you as well.... Take your pick! ;)

Note: Usually the ones that talk big are the littlest ones....

You've fallen for his master plan!

Just remember, if you show up, and he has an Instroke case put on sunglasses immediately lest you lose more than your wallet.

Also, I'm selling custom cues for under $40 they are brownwood with a straw wrap and are also very good for sweeping floors.

Is there some reason that those other brands of cases are superior to Action cases? Other than looks I mean...
 
i'd love to play. let me know when you're in dallas. also, who's your friend from dallas so i can abuse him on the pool table until you come by?
