Need help to ID this cue please

Yes, I saw that bit of shadow myself and thought it might be the tip of a CNC pocket after I reconsidered the matter. But the owner of the cue says they were sharp to begin with.

Seems like some contradictions.

Makes it difficult. But it's definitely piqued my curiosity.

I don't know who made this cue, but I am fairly certain those are spliced points. Not cnc.

Gents , the owner definitely says the points were sharp before the hack got his hands on it. I'm glad that you guys seem enthusiastic to solve the identity, means the stick is something substantial for my friends sake. Though with the damage, I'm guessing whatever it ends up being, a bunch of value is lost...

Still waiting on the pics of the pilot in the shaft. Will bug him today about it again.

most joss's .. even the new custom ones that dan janes and his son are doing... have the rounded outer point.. and the spliced points on the inside...

i was going to post an example but i went on the joss website, and they now have Joss Handmade cues with razor points advertised...

I'D GUESS JOSS.

EVERYTHING LOOKS JOSS, AND THE FACT THAT IT'S 5 VENEER, REALLY MAKES ME THINK JOSS. I THINK I'VE SEEN MORE JOSS CUES WITH 5 VENEERS, THAN ALL OTHER CUE MAKERS COMBINED.

I'D REALLY E-MAIL DAN JANES AND SEE WHAT HE SAYS.

IF IT'S NOT HIS, MAYBE MCDANIEL?

Still looks inlaid to me. The void at the tip is rounded, not sharp, which is very telling. I wouldn't say the points were NOT sharp before refinish, because they may have been. It was not uncommon for inlaid points to get painted tips to give the impression of sharp. If it were one point that was dull then I could go with it being spliced. But all 4 points being rounded, and I assume relatively even, then it screams inlay with painted tips. Sanding the old finish off would remove the painted tips to reveal the rounded, misfit inlay with glue gap on top. If so, then you can't fault the builder. The cue satisfied players for years until somebody else tampered with it. I could be wrong, and wouldn't be bothered if I am, but I don't think I am. I'd sure like to know for certain, though.

Well, I was fortunate to be able to speak to Dan Janes and he said the best thing to do is go through the archives on the site and see if I found a match. I got the impression he's a little busy to be fielding emailed pics to see if it's his handy work, I can appreciate that. I looked through the archives and no match...similar stuff but nothing remotely identical.

**On a side note, it is possible he is making a mistake about the points being sharp, especially since it seems to up for debate here. I've asked him twice if he's sure and he says he is but after seeing some of those older Joss cues...**

Anyways, if it even is a Joss, the damage prob means it isn't worth nearly what is should be, but he loves the way it feel and plays so it is a keeper for him regardless. Thanks again gents - really learned some stuff from this thread.
 
I could have saved you the trouble!

I already went through the JOSS archives as well as my own pictures and a thorough web search.

But...never hurts to check twice.
