Paul Drexler is making me a playing cue and I am also going to get him to also make me a break/jump cue to compliment the playing cue.The cue I am having maid is a birdseye maple forarm with 4 ebony points, black leather wrap, and ebony butt sleeve.I really don't want a b/j cue with 4 ebony points, but I want something that whould go along with the playing cue.Any suggestions??

Yeah,I know that.He hasnt really suggested anythinf so I thought I whould ask here.

How about a combination of ebony and birdseye maple without points? Or maybe just plain birdseye maple or ebony? My Espiritu I ordered has a birdseye maple forearm with four cocobolo points with a turquoise diamond in each point and a cocobolo bunt with eight holly u inlays and a turquoise diamond in each. The one I just ordered for breaking is solid cocobolo. If I say so myself, I think it's a very nice combination. Another thing is my playing cue has a tan and white wrap while the break cue has a white and tan wrap. The possibilities are endless.

I suggested that to Paul.Plain birdseye maple forarm with an ebony butt sleeve. He then said that I whould need to think about adding 4 ebony inlays to compliment my playing cue.I really can't think of anything that whould go with my playing cue except something like 4 ebony lines in the forarm of the b/j cue???Thanks for the post

Jump/Break Cue

How about a simple ebony forearm and ebony butt, it looks great and would blend in with the other one nicely. Or he could leave it wrapless and have ebony from the butt to the joint, I have the same thing in my Lucasi jump/break. :D

I have a Predator break cue and I notice that I am getting chips about 5 to 6 inches from the joint. I investigated this and it is caused by the cue hitting the metal band around the edge of the bar tables. You may want to see if this happens when you break. If it does you may not want waste your money by going too fancy because the cue is going to look like a piece of crap after breaking a few racks. The Predator has a painted finish which does not help but it still would have plenty of chips and dents if it had a clear finish.

Another thought. If you get a plain cue that looks like a sneaky pete you could use it as playing cue when you are out slumming.

I would get an ebony forearm and butt sleeve with a birdseye maple handle or reverse, which ever you prefer. I have a Jacoby j/b cue www.zimsrack.com under "Cue Collection". It has a curly maple forearm and butt sleeve with an ebony handle and it feels and hits sweeett!!!
Good luck!

I think a cue with simple birds eye and ebony would look great. Birdseye forearm and ebony break away piece. It's simple but pretty sharp.

TheBook...that might be a problem with the cue itself. I know of about 4 people that had the same problem multiple times and none of them play on the bartable. If you contact Predator they will look at it and send you a new one if the problem is their error.

I agree with Zim and Sarah, a birdseye front and either a ebony handle or solid black linen wrap with ebony butt sleeve would look awesome. I was thinking about having Paul make me a cue but he really doesnt like the idea of plain or simple cues. I asked him about a plain jane but he said that he would have to add some inlays to make it worthy of being called a PFD cue. He is an excellent cuemaker so I didnt really question him but needless to say I went to someone else. If you are looking for a great break/jump cue, I would suggest the Omen Grey Ghost or one of his natural b/j cues. They are one of the best cues out there and the wood that he uses are gorgeous. Check out his site www.omencues.com and look at the b/j cues. They are a decent price for what you are getting. PFD cues are great but I think that they are a bit pricey. Good luck either way!

Thanks for all the help guys.I think that I am going to go with plain birdseye maple forarm, ebony handle section, birdseye butt sleeve. :D

I know this is off topic, but I thought I'll mention in case someone missed it. From what I've read about the Predator warranty, they don't like to live up to their "lifetime" warranty. Just thought to mention that there is an interesting thread over in "Ask the Cuemaker" I believe about Predator and their warranties.

I agree with Sarah, it's going to look sharp. Glad you finally decided on something pfduser.

good choice going wrapless. The wrap groove is (total) 0.050" less than the rest of the cue, which would make it more flexible, which you don't want in a break cue.

Thanks,

Thanks Sarah for the input. It is good to know that it may be a material problem. The cue looks like crap. Not very good advertising for them. I will contact them and ask about this. I thought it was a problem from hitting the metal band. Will get back with the results.
