Hi Guys. I need some help ID'ing this old Schon Cue that I just picked up. It has the
rounded points, but the sharp diamond inlays. Oh, and yes that is an old original Jay
Flowers case that it came in. The seller told me that he picked up the cue and case
at the same time about 16 years ago. I don't know where he picked them up from. I
know I can go to Evan, and I still may if I don't get an answer here. If it's an R-12, I'll
probably go to Scott at Proficient for a full makeover. If it's an SL-7, I'll probably just
do a cleanup. Thanks so much in advance, Dom.

Sharp inlays I would say R 12. This is mine which doesn't have sharp points but due to the inlays and unique ring work I believe it to be. Nice cue btw.

That's a nice Schon! It doesn't even look like it needs to be refinshed.

Thanks Scott. Pictures can be deceiving. LOL. The cue does have it's smaller issues.
The butt cap must have shrunk or been replaced. You can definitely feel a step
between the butt sleeve and the butt cap. Well, I guess the sleeve might have
expanded? Also, someone got mad at the cue and stabbed it with a knife or blade.
Yes, there is about a half inch gouge in the linen wrap. like it was stabbed with a
razor blade. Also, you can feel the silver rings coming out a bit. It also has it's smaller
dings and such. The finish on the shafts is pretty much gone too. The pics are of the
cue exactly how I received it. I didn't do a thing to it.

I say R 12....
Made by BOB RUNDE

Thanks Duane. I'm leaning that way too, but I'd love to be sure.

Thanks Lenny. I appreciate it. Was your cue identified by Evan Clarke? Just
wondering how you're sure yours is an R-12.

BTW, I have another thread like this one open in the Cue Gallery section. An AZ'er
asked for me to look into the pin and see if it was cored with any grain. To me, it
looks wood colored, but I cant see any wood figure under the epoxy. Maybe this
would help. Thanks again all.

I am basing it mainly that the SL-7 I believe has rounded inlays and not sharp ones compared to the R-12. Would be cool if Evan could chime in here.

Hi Dom...are there any markings on the shafts?...it doesn't appear so. I'd say it's an R-12 too...cause I highly doubt you'd find an SL model with two Runde era Schon shafts. Nice cue either way...

Take care,

Jeremy

Another valid point, mine doesn't have Schon on the shaft either but is a Schon shaft.

Well, I just sent an email to " info@schoncues.com " and directed it to Evan or whoever
might be able to help in identification. I'll definitely relay what I find out over here.I didn't give a link to
this thread. I only included a link to my photobucket pics.

Morning Jeremy. No, there are no markings whatsoever on the shaft, but by the looks
of the pilots, they both look like the old school Schon shafts. Of course I didn't include
good pic's here of the pilots, but I just included the best one I have below. Thanks for
the compliment on the cue. I'm thinking about a full refinish with Schon or Scott at
Proficient. Nobody likes the case?:eek::wink:

I have a SL6 and a friend has a SL7. I'm pretty sure it's an SL7. Go to THE PALMER COLLECTOR he has pictures of all the SL series and many more. Hope this helps. The rings on the butt are different on the R12 than the SL7.

I totally understand where you're coming from with the rings, but I don't think I've ever
seen an SL7 with sharp diamond inlays. From what I can recall, the SL7 has always
had rounded diamond inlays. I would just love to be sure. Thanks for the input. I
appreciate it.

Its a TRANSITIONAL ERA CUE From schon
the 1990 sp catalogue shows sharp points and rounded points
both cues have sharp ivory inlays
palmer collector has pics of a cue just like yours with the same rings and inlays , only sharp points
Bob Runde started using cnc just before he retired from schon
AND When he started up in 1994 again He also began using cnc points in cues under His own name for about 6 years or so
