Need new breakcue - what do you recommend?

Hi,

I am sure there are dozens of topics about this already, so sorry for that.

Today I am playing with an old Predator Breakcue, but I am now looking for something new.

There are so many on the market, so I thought I would try to get some of your inputs here, before heading out to poolhalls and ask to try some.

Would appreciate it if you could post a quick reply and letting me know what breakcue do you have, what pricerange it is, and why you feel this is one I should try.
 
BK Rush or Cuetec Breach are the 2 best break cues out there right now imo but they are not cheap. If you aren't trying to spend a lot a J&J break with a good tip will do. The Surge by Cuetec or the Jay Flowers breaker aren’t bad cheaper options either.

Bk rush my vote
Can find them used for 600range
And the black one new if you look around can’t find them new for 700

Best one I’ve used so far
Can get a good controlled jump and spread with it easily

"Top of the Line" is a subjective label.

I made my decision after hitting the Rush, Breach and PB-G. The breach was the least impressive, and considered the Rush/PB-G interchangeable. Went with the PB-G merely to be brand loyal and less common. It was a hair more expensive but the pricing was different a while back.
 
If you are playing big table 9 ball for the cash or in tournaments, go with the BK Rush.

I own one & truly believe it offers the most in accuracy with the low deflection properties & a little bit of built in forgiveness.

Check out the Diveney jump break cue. This is what I’m using currently. I have a beautiful one in Cocobolo that was $1100. They do make an all black finished one that I believe is much less in price. IMO it can & does it all effectively.

Having said, I’m just a lowly bar box 8 ball player. My break cue really doesn’t matter. 🤣🤣
 
Put a new tip on your existing one, have the ferrule exchanged if it's broken, give it a polish if it's wood and then maybe buy yourself and your loved ones something of lasting value instead. Happy Holidays ;) 🎅

IMO it's hard to beat an old Pred BK either orig or 2, the only problem being the stock tip sux and the joint wants to loosen up all by itself so easy fixes are:

BK orig & BK2: Pre shot routine must include a quick tighten on the joint and fix #2 is to replace stock tip with a White Diamond on your BK and you will break like king kong. Or at least your upgraded BK won't prevent you from breaking like an ape.

I wanted to buy a carbon break cue so I tried the BK Rush, the Cuetec Breach, the Mezz Power Break G Ignite and the JFlowers BRKR.
The first three are top-notch especially the bk and the mezz, but I bought the JFlowers because it is the best bang for the buck. 380 $ is more than effortable and the other three breakers are not more than double the price worth.
 
I've had my BK Rush for about three years now. I put a bullet proof tip on it and really like it.

What is it about your current cue that you dislike? Why do you think something new is necessarily going to be better?

As long as it's straight, is weighted the way you like and has a good tip, I really don't think there's just that much difference from one to the other.

Having said that, it's Christmas and I certainly understand wanting to give yourself a bit of a present, and sometimes something new and shiny is just the thing! 🙂

The original tip on my BK Rush went completely flat after a couple years, so I replaced it with a Kamui SAI. I think it was a huge improvement with much better feeling and more control.
 
The BK Rush hits like a freight train. I have tried putting a hard tip on a playing cue. Then I bought a designated break shaft.. The BK Rush hits harder with more control than both. I have never once regretted spending that $800 or whatever it was.
 
@Roy Steffensen , here are my $0.02.
I'd give a quick study of custom cuemakers, in low- or mid-range (in regard with price tag, i.e. one you could consider affordable). And go this route anyway, rather than major brands (sorry Predator, Cuetec & Mezz, who all make a decent product).

Excuse me that I can't come up with a name of a certain craftsman, as I've been away from news of cuemaking industry for quite a while. But one I can recall now is a Sledgehammer by Mike Gulyassy. Chances are you won't find any made by himself, but there was a batch outsourced at Taiwan I believe, at his direct order and under supervision. I own one of those cues. That is one hell of a breaker (and mind you, it is a jump breaker). One thing you could consider a drawback (if you play with your own ball set) is a phenolic ferrule-tip combo. But it is a very easy fix, if required - just have it cut flat at a lathe and install a tip of your preference, which won't hurt the cue ball as much as a hard phenolic, and still jumps good.
 
I tried to get the JF BRKR but it was on back order so I bought the Little Monster. Once I scuffed the top layer of the hard, clear mystery tip, it broke 2x as well as it did prior.
I was very happy with the hit and the control. However, the tip wore VERY quickly after that shaping and I eventually put a White Diamond on it.
I don't like it as much now.
I should have my hands on the Rhino Komet in a couple weeks and will give a review.
I will be selling the one I like the least.
