Chris Hightower has some videos and a book. Unique also has some videos. You can also get a good bit of info on you tube. Some of the guys here have some videos up that will give you some of an idea, depending on what your looking to do. Go slow, take your time and be careful!!!

My biggest suggestion is do a lot of practice on scrap. Practice installing ferrules and tips. Be sure you can put the cue near the lathe without doing damage. Metal lathes are not really designed for doing wood working and you can really damage a cue just closing the chuck if you are not careful. Doing repair work can actually be harder and more stressful then building a cue.

I have only once damaged a cue but to the tune of $600.00 I had to pay the guy. I then took possession of the cue and managed to fix it recovering most of my money. I learned a lesson not to let your dog get anywhere near someones cue.

What kind of lathe did you get?

All of that, and: BE CAREFUL! Depending how powerful your lathe is, it'll just keep spinning no matter what gets in the way. With a hammer, you can smash your finger. With a circular saw, you can cut off a finger. With a lathe, it can kill you.

Sorry but I think you are wroung. A hammer can kill you. A saw can kill you too! With a lathe you can get addicted to cue building. Witch is worse than death!

Would that be a good witch, or a bad witch? It is the month of Halloween...

It would be a bigger help if you listed specics on what you planned to do and did not know how.

I don't know, metal lathes are pretty safe if you are careful. You do the work remotely with the feeds keeping your hands well away from the work. Now a wood lathe is another story. I have a friend that turns chunks of wood that are like 40 lb's. It scares the hell out of me watching him. He has turning tools the size of ball bats.

Well, the first thing you should do is change your name and not advertise that you are a cubs fan. Lol. Seriously, the cubs? I guess its better than the Yankees. Lol. Just teasing man. Lol.
