I need a tap for the new 3/8 x 10 like some of the higher end cue makers are using . My old Atlas tap will not let the female J/P go on far enough. Thanks for the help in advance. Jim

Is Atlas out of them already? They just got them in a few months ago. I think they are $55.00.

Jim,

How's the taper bar?
On the JP's... grind the end of the tap so to make it a bottoming tap. Buy another tap to make the first run and then run the bottoming one in..

Hi John The bar came in yesterday, and I've been up to my ass in Aligatore since I got home, I will unwrap it tonight . Thanks I already flatened the end to one tap, a long time ago, But someone came up with a different pitch on the thread, saying how much better the hit becouse of now you have so much more wood grabing the pin or some other bull sh-- excuse to make theres a little diff. and if you need help you have to come to me. My main purpose this morning when I got up was to drain the swamp, but I was already up to my ass in aligatores. Thanks again John I feel better know. jim

If you're talking about the 3/8-10 flat bottomed pin, a standard tap will work as long as the minor diameter of your hole is .308 or larger. This "different" 3/8-10 pin uses EXACTLY the same tooling as the original 3/8-10 pin except the minor diameter is bored to .308 concentric with the OD of the shaft. I use a 15 yr old Atlas tap for this "new" pitch.

If you're already boring the hole larger than .308, then you need either a bottom tap or a deeper hole.

FWIW, all my 3/8-10 JPs are interchangeable. JPs I made 10 yrs ago will fit perfectly on the new style pin & vice versa.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I went out and measured my bit and its .309 . I think , for a joint Pro. I will increase this by a few thou. and I always leave the top of the J/P open and run the tap all the way tru. I'l do this several times. Thanks Jim
