I recently was in an accident and lost the vision of my left eye, I have always played pool left handed and have been left eye dominant. I don't want to spend the rest of my life learning to shoot right handed, do any of you shoot with the opposite hand of your dominant eye, and how do you line up on your shot line. And are there any pros who do this so I can study their lining up by looking at their videos. This is such a disappointing situation, any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Check out John Morra's stance and form. His cue rides way inside of his body and possibly near the eye opposite of his shooting hand.

I believe the term is "Cross Eye Dominant"...which means people who shoot from the side of their body that's opposite of their dominant eye. I'm cross eye dominant with both cue sports and firearms. It works fine for me. In fact, I didn;t even know I was cross eye dominant until someone pointed it out to me. You can do it, and you'll be surprised how fast you adapt and that it becomes 2nd nature. Best of luck. Keep your chin up, dude. -Z-

eye dominance

I have a similar eye problem I use a similar stance and cue position to Darren Appleton

Just play. Your body will auto-compensate. Good luck.

I'm so left eye dominant that I close my right eye just to check my shot alignment. Trying to put the cue under my left eye isn't a comfortable option for me. I shoot righty. Mitch

You can go to Pro Pool Players or just Pool Players on Google & see how many players shoot with their inside eye ... Good Luck

Here it is: vision center resource page.

FYI to you and others, anytime you want to find info on a particular topic, just go to the FAQ page at billiards.colostate.edu. That's where I go when I want to find something fast. You can also do a key-word search in the box at the bottom of the main page.

Regards,
Dave

Your brain already knows how to shoot pool...the learning curve will be much quicker than somebody just starting out. All you have to do is build muscle memory shooting the other way. I played for a month straight with my left hand (I'm right handed) and I became quite proficient with it.

Just play. Your body will auto-compensate. Good luck.
This is also true. I wouldn't read too much into this dominant eye mumbo jumbo. Good luck.

Example

About five years ago I lost my vision to otic nerve drusen it a genetic disease that you're born with it's basically calcium deposits in your optic nerve. They lie dormant for years and then all the sudden you lose your vision.

This didn't happen to me til I was about 34 and I was and A player on good days B+ on most other days. Then one nite at pool room I couldn't make a ball, it took about a day to figure out that I had lost 80% of my vision.

It took me 2 years of playing almost every day roughly 3-6 hrs a day just to get back to a strong B. It is possible to get back close or even better if you want.
One thing that dramatically improve was I could shoot opposite hand really well, not really sure how that happened. I think I'm in line with ball better with that hand.

If you pm me I can give you a couple of pointers to help you improve quicker. Sorry for the long post just thought I share and let you know, I know what your going through. In time you will improve.
