New 9 Ball Movie

I have watched the teasers of the new nine ball movie and I have to let it be known that it's one of the crappiest productions I have seen. It currently is in competition with "The Toxic Avenger".

1. No offense but Ms Barreta cannot act. Really none of them can act but she gets the prize.
2. Jeanette saying "Get involved in a team organization, with standardized rules" and her shooting with an APA poster in the background. What a joke. If anything pool players should be laughing at this blatent advertisement.
3. For some reason, possibly the music or the costumes, I am just waiting for everyone to strip and have an orgy on the pool table.

This is unfortunate because only pool players will watch this movie and be disgusted, it will do nothing to promote the game.

Just my opinion.

like the idea of the pool table orgy though. man jeanette and jennifer would be smokin!

Maybe the producers can edit in a few games of strip pool to generate a little more mainstream interest.

Why be a hater. This is a pool movie. It has a alot of well known and respected players involved n this movie. Will it be a hit? Probably not. But there is such a thing as a niche. For instance, I loved Howard The Duck, and it is a horrible movie. Give it a chance and don't kill the movie. Give it a chance. Just my .02 worth.

Give it a chance.

Not sure why the hatchet job by you guys. I just saw the trailer and I understand that the movie isn't finished, so it can't be edited yet. As the story evolves, it may be interesting. Movies are always re-worked to get them right.

I think that your depth of understanding of porn will come in handy some day, but if you really think that what you are saying is true and it is a common feeling among other people, then the director and producers will probably take it into consideration. Remember, the movie isn't done yet.

Also, the high budget "Color of Money" movies don't come along very often because the low budget ones don't get very far. Instead of being a negative force, try to help. You guys must have some great ideas considering how you are talking. Send them to the director. Or better yet send them a copy of your last movie as an example. I just think that you can do better than that. These people are trying to help you and you spit in their eye. The way it goes is the more exposure, the more money, the more money, the more exposure, the more money, etc, etc.

Thanks,
Jim

Why is anything but a blindly positive opinion about anything being done to promote Pool seen as bashing or people being classified as haters?

I have to agree, based on the limited amount of the movie I've seen, the acting isn't good. Major roles should have people with a degree of acting skill. Let's face it, professional acting is a skill and talent. In my opinion, acting rarely comes out well when people with no training or practice "just do it". For that matter, this is why non acting celebrities tend to have cameo roles in major productions.

I say, take these opinions for what they are, positive or negative. If negative opinions have merit and logic, then you're silly to dismiss them.

*Edit-the new trailer is 101% better than the original one. The original was so bad, I was embarrassed and I wasn't in the clip.

Eric >not bashing

Thanks for the thread but I disagree with your opinion. It may not be an Oscar contender, but it may not be too bad for a low budget movie. As far as the acting, these women are professional pool players and not professional actresses. Give them a break. Reserve judgement until the movie is released, watch the whole flick, and then decide. Who knows, it may be a hit. The girls are pretty and if there's a good plot you may like it.

They have had several trailers over time. About a year ago (i think), it made me laugh that they called it a "movie". Looked like it was shot on a DV camera with no lights and terrible mics.

Since then, the production value has shockingly went up A LOT! Shooting on the RED 1 is no joke. The lighting and film quality is great. Can't say the same thing about the level of acting...hard to watch. As a pool player, I enjoy watching things about pool. Though I don't know if I could sit through this movie. From the trailer, the plot and acting looks just too bad to stomach. Though I give the director a lot of credit for upping the production value 10000 fold.

Some free advice: Pool players are pool players. Actors are actors. There is a reason Miz and Mcready has small roles and Newman and Cruise had the lead roles in The Color of Money.

I saw some of the trailers and agree it looks awful. Actually, saying it look awful is being kind. It would take quite a bit of work to make it awful.

Tip for potential movie makers: Movies are better with an actual script. Get one!

To be nice , I will say it's good to make a movie about pool but if you
going to make one with bad acting and script, might as well make no
movie at all.

Pool players are pool players. Actors are actors. .

You said a mouthfull right there. If you want to have a pool tournament, get the pool players. If you want to make a movie, get the actors.

I watched the trailer and didn't think it was too bad. It wasn't really long enough to form an opinion on how the movie was going to turn out. I would watch the movie, no problem.

There was a poker movie titled The Big Blind that was made "by a poker player for poker players" and it featured mostly non-actors. Somehow they convinced Scotty Nyguen to play himself. It was horrible. It never even saw a real theatrical release. That being said it didn't hurt poker in any way....it just faded into obscurity and gave collectors something to add to their DVD collection.

So this really can't be a negative. It won't make anyone NOT pick up a cue. If it has any redeeming qualities it may bring a few new people into the game.

Hard to say from watching that preview. But, It does look watchable. I would say only good things can come from it. Like getting new people interested in our industry. I will definitely watch it.

Firstly, I am not a hater, just a realist.

You just made my point for me, pool players should keep playing pool and actors should keep acting. When you don't understand your limitations, like a truck driver taking up ballet dancing, you'll look like an idiot and lose credibility all around.

It's sad when a person thinks they can do anything because they know how to shake their ass. I shake mine all time and all I get are sighs of pain :(.
