New 9 Ball Movie

I followed the link and saw something that interested me. It showed pictures of Shannelle Lorraine and Charlie Williams and said something like "World Champions Shannelle and Charlie join the cast". I might be able to wrap my mind around Charlie winning a World Championship, but Shannelle? What is she the world champion of?

I think i'll put this movie in my "come home pissed and watch while having a few last beers and a kebab" section. It looks like a nice easy watch while unwinding IMHO.

One of the classic films that will define American cinema, 9-ball is a rare example of a collaboration involving hundreds of talents and egos that turned out great. Dozens of uncredited screenwriters (including F. Scott Fitzgerald, briefly) and hundreds of actors were marshaled by David O. Selznick for this effort. The resulting four-hour epic is, inflation-adjusted, still the highest-grossing movie of all time -- and it deserves to be. For millions of people, 9-ball has helped to define the myth and reality of America’s most tragic (and much-misunderstood) sport , the Civil War and Reconstruction. eeehhhH What? Oh that was Gone with the wind, never mind.

Dont get me wrong, some actors CAN play pool and some pool players (im sure) are capable of acting. I personally don't think JL or JB fit into these small percentages.

However, ANYONE can learn ANYTHING and be good at it with enough work. Sure talent makes the best, but acting can be taught to anyone thats willing to learn and pool can be taught to anyone willing to learn. Its as simple as that.

If you can talk you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance.

I'm sure the movie will accomplish it's goal. To promote pool and revitalize the sport. That can't be a bad thing. Even if Jeanette and Jennifer are horrible actresses.

My biggest worry is that so far it looks like a big shameless commercial for the APA. Yes, I play in the APA currently so I'm not an APA hater. But will I be embarassed to be an APA player and be forced to leave and join the BCA just so I can keep my self respect after this movie actually comes out? Maybe. We'll have to wait and see.

Looks good to me. I like the idea of having real players in the movie. Brings them a little closer to being real people. It will certainly be good for the history books.

I agree with the others, give it a chance. It is for the player / fans and will be good for the sport no matter how it comes out.

In addition a few players will get to make a few bucks and it just might lead to some other attempts.

I think it is a great idea and hope they do well.

I will buy a copy just to support their efforts.

I saw that and had the same question...

Then I remembered that she snapped off the World Cleavage Championship in '08. Came through from the one-loss side -- showed lots of heart….

I just watched the trailer... It didn't look 'too' bad.

I've seen most of the crappy pool movies... I'm sure I'll watch this one. I'll probably buy it when its available too.

Any idea when this is gonna be released?

last i heard they were looking for investors so they could come up with the money to finish the movie. is that still the case?

I'm not sure, but if it's going to be much longer they might need to change the name to 10-ball.

I thought????

I thought you had to have had breast cancer at one point to come back from the one loss side in that competition?????

I have watched the teasers of the new nine ball movie and I have to let it be known that it's one of the crappiest productions I have seen. It currently is in competition with "The Toxic Avenger".

1. No offense but Ms Barreta cannot act. Really none of them can act but she gets the prize.
2. Jeanette saying "Get involved in a team organization, with standardized rules" and her shooting with an APA poster in the background. What a joke. If anything pool players should be laughing at this blatent advertisement.
3. For some reason, possibly the music or the costumes, I am just waiting for everyone to strip and have an orgy on the pool table.

This is unfortunate because only pool players will watch this movie and be disgusted, it will do nothing to promote the game.

Just my opinion.

FWIW, I loved "The Toxic Avenger". (All of them).

Also, I've seen the trailers, and while it's true that the players can't act, neither could Tom Cruise, and TCOM was a smashing success... :grin-square:

I'll probably watch it anyway; any movie that gives pool more than a passing glance in a bar fight scene is worth watching ONCE.

Jaden, my mom is a breast cancer survivor, so I could have taken serious offense to that...But, it was so damned FUNNY! Rep for you. :D
