Surprised there wasn't a thread on this already:
One thing I don't think we knew at the time of the June 22 thread was how wide the break box would be. As I mentioned in that thread, in the other events that have used similar rules to what the European Open will use (US Open, International Open) the break box was 9" to either side of the long string. But the box is a full diamond to either side of center in many other events. From the diagram in post #1, it looks like the European Open will use a fairly narrow box. But the diagram makes it look closer to 8" to either side rather than 9". Maybe the diagram is just off a little (or maybe I am).June 22 thread with 138 replies: ...

June 22 thread with 138 replies:Matchroom changing break rules for European Open (Aug 9-14 Germany)
Old: winner breaks, 1 on the spot, no restrictions except forceful break New: winner breaks, 9 on the spot, with a break box and needs to be forceful Thoughts?forums.azbilliards.com
It came from Emily Frazier's Facebook post. I don't think there was any more explanation beyond the diagram. One thing I don't think we knew at the time of the June 22 thread was how wide the break box would be. What is the source of the diagram? Is there any additional text to go with it?
The event is nearly here -- matches start in less than 12 hours now. It looks like Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz is still in good form. He won the Euro Tour event in Bulgaria today, defeating Filler, Alyousef, Kazakis, and Kaçi in his 4 matches.
I like Karl’s videos. I saw it yesterdayKarl boyes has a YouTube video on the new break rules
I'd say Sanchez-Ruiz is in the conversation for third best player in the world right now, only behind Filler and Gorst.he's a lock for the MC team, that's for sure
I haven't checked the lineup for the upcoming Matchroom Asia event, but hopefully that will have good representation from these missing players.very glad to see tony drago in the bracket. will play on table 2 tomorrow.
sad to not see any pinoy or chinese players. there are hongkong, vietnamese and mideast players (even israeli snooker pro eden sharav) but the most prominent asian players are missing. dennis, ko bros, chang, biado, etc.

its on the MR9 calendar. wouldn't that make it a MR event? most events on the sched. are not run directly by MR but are still MR9 events.i don't think it's a matchroom event, just an event that will count in matchrooms nineball rankings, like the DCC?
melling is playing finnish player jani uski at the TV table, uski leading 3-2. uski is very much a player on the rise. he may be the strongest player in the finnish contingent, not counting mika
While I could possibly be wrong, I think you're mistaken. I believe it's a core Matchroom event and a major, which is more than just a Matchroom-affiliated rankings event. The arena is set up identically to the way the UK Open was set up, with the three-table setup (center table not used until Stage 2) and the remainder of the tables directly behind. The arena is also filled with signs and banners that say "Nine Ball" on them, and that's how Matchroom sets up their arenas in its core events to best market nine ball.i don't think it's a matchroom event, just an event that will count in matchrooms nineball rankings, like the DCC?
camel tour broke from the box yrs ago. combined with 9-on-spot should slow down the b&r's. good idea imo. without this 9b can be a joke at the top level.
