New break rule for European Open

Here's tomorrow's schedule.

Schedule - Sunday, 14 August @ 12 pm (CEST) ​

Semi-Final 1 - Albin Ouschan vs Mario He​
​
Semi-Final 2 - Shane Van Boening vs Jose Alberto Delgado​
​
Final - Race to 13 - @ 6:30pm​

Start at 6AM Eastern, 3AM Pacific. Final at 12:30PM Eastern, 9:30AM Pacific.

yes, shane vs delgado and albin vs he

delgado is the only real surprise. from what little i've seen he has good fundamentals. reminding of kaci in that regard

Maybe I’ll feel different if someone comes along with a break perfected to a repeatable easy layout, but until then I’d be willing to see hand racking leave if this break style continues to require skill to make the 1 and luck to have a good layout/cueball position.

From Day 1 I noticed there is one downside to this break box rule. The opening shot often produces ugly layouts, the pattern is almost all the balls (or literally all of them) get relocated to one side of the table because of severe cut break in an attempt to pocket the 1 in the side.

In order to figure out the real consequences, one has to track all the racks played on Tables 1 and 2 and categorize them by this criteria. So far I'm certain this happened much more often with a template. But the position pictured is from Ouschan vs Grabe match where a triangle was in use.
 
Has this been on DAZN without any hiccups? I’ve been checking my DAZN the past 2 days, and no mention of billiards at all. The only thing I can think of is I’m on vacation in Iceland and maybe it’s blocked in this country?

I don't recall any problems with it today. And a significant improvement was that the commercial breaks, still about 3 minutes each after every 3 or 4 games, had no commercials. Repeating those boxing (and a few other) commercials over and over in the past was really annoying.

You're supposed to be watching volcanoes and the aurora borealis. ;)

According to to matchroompool.com, for the final days it's "Matchroom.Live for the rest of the world" which seems to include Iceland. I suppose the right VPN would let you use DAZN.

DAZN did have a glitch today (or yesterday?) where there was a completely blank screen but it came back fairly quickly. My main complaint is that the videos are often taken down very quickly. I see that Session 2 from today is still up. Maybe they keep only one at a time.

I had an issue on my iPhone where I was watching Session 1 behind the live coverage. When the session ended my playback ended. I am used to that. Usually I just close the app and jump back in and find where I was. Today when I came back I couldn’t control the playback. It wouldn’t let me scroll the little progress indicator. It just kept playing the same segment and then hanging. It worked fine from my PS5 but I didn’t always have sole control of the TV so it was pretty frustrating.

i guess never count albin out, but mario really has been looking the strongest. his break is working really well, breaking a bit more head on and more powerful than most. his timing is almost impeccable and he seems to have gauged the speed of the table very well, leading to many runouts

Yes, aplenty. He kind of melted under pressure towards the intensive end, as I see it. He played a poor positional shot with the bridge, then was robbed by the table (IMO) on the subsequent jump shot, and the next rack when Albin broke dry Mario played shape right into the side pocket.
