Me too. I sure hope the JMW Santa makes it through the snow today.

That same Balabushka inspired my cue. Fancy that. Just proves how appealing the design is.

i like lots about the cue even thou i dont really like snakewood.
the one thing i cant stand is the ringwork you did above the wrap sticks out like a sore thumb(too me it just doesnt look right...too busy)....usually i think all cues should have ringwork but this one i dont think should have it....i could see something like whats below the joint and on the shaft repeated but not the dots again.
either way its just my opinion...looks like you still did a great job with the cue.

Well I used Balabushka for a reason and if it was good enough for him, it was good enough for me. :wink:
I like the ring because the dots tie into the inlays, but can uderstand completely that someone might want to carry the ringwork down instead.

I've been a fan of Paul Mottey cues for as long as I can remember. No offense to anyone that uses any other brand of cue, but in my opinion no one makes a better cue than Paul Mottey.
One day I was looking through some photos of cues online and there were probably 50 or so cues lined up on a table. My first thought was "Where are the Mottey's?" so I was fingering along and "BAM" there they were. About 5 or 6 Mottey cues. His work is so easy to pick out of a crowd. So, I go down the list of names and those cues were marked "James White". I was like "WTF?? Who is this guy?" so, a little online research turned up that he is/was working under Paul Mottey. I found it very interesting how much his cues looked like Mottey's and there was the answer for it.
Anyway, that piqued my curiosity. I contacted Paul and asked him about Jim and his cues. I've ordered at least 6 cues from Paul over the years. Paul's reply to me was short and sweet "You should have one in your collection" Well, what else did I need to hear?
I decided for my first JMW cue that I wanted to test, test might be too strong a word, but I wanted to see what he could do with just pieces of wood with no inlays or anything else to dress it up. I had seen a bunch of his cues online by this time and I was extremely impressed with his designs. But, I wanted to see what he could do, as I said above, without dressing it up. If he could make a jaw dropping cue using just the woods that went into the cue.
Well, you can see my cue in one of the other threads floating around here, or I can post it up here if you like. I didn't want to hijack your thread with my pics. Anyway, there isn't even one slight bald spot on my forearm. The figure of the maple goes all around and covers every inch. There isn't even a spot on there that looks like it might taper off. The burl he used for the points? Jesus, immaculate. The entire thought behind this cue, when I was thinking of a design, was when you see it from a distance you think "Ahh, plain 6 pointer" but when you walk up on it you see how gorgeous it really is. Jim took my idea and did it in spades. I couldn't be happier.
Sorry, when I read your comment about the snakewood it made me think of that. You really do have a nice looking cue there, man.
