.......... and it came in this box. Box was literally ripped in half and then re-taped back together.

The cue wasn't overly packed, just basic using bubble pack. Not a scratch on it. I was very lucky this time, but for anything of value, I'm using FedEx from now on....

Nice, huh? At least this wasnt' the Haley delivery....

Changing shipping companies wont help. I had the same thing happen with FedEx. Amazing how well bubble wrap works isn't it.

We had a FedEx man come into our gate with a small drill press in a box, one day. He heard a dog bark and dropped that box on the sidewalk, totally destroying the box. It bent the drill press handle and put a couple of marks on it, but we were able to fix it up and use it. Ever since then, FedEx is NOT my favorite people to receive deliveries from. I know it was a fluke and it could happen to anyone, but it's still like it happened yesterday.

I always mark my cue boxes as Fragile, even though that shouldn't be necessary. In fact, I found that Staples has some great 2 inch wide FRAGILE tape that you can order online, so I wrap the packages with it and then I stick another piece or two somewhere else on the box. Anyone can tell from any direction that the box has fragile contents in it.

The best thing I've seen is to use a heavy wall paper tube & put it inside one of these boxes - who ever you use to ship. Jeff Olney sent my custom in a tube that has side walls 1/4" thick! Don't know where he gets them, but they are great! Still have mine.

Anyone use PVC?May have been mentioned, but have not seen anyone mention this here. I also dabble in collecting custom longbows and that is the preferred method for shipping them. It is a little more expensive but seems like it would be worth it for some of the cues bought and sold here. Just a thought.

i posted about 2years ago ups driver delivered an ob1 from troy (KK) that was snapped completely in half. the driver dropped and ran. i met him at the door and as he's running away i said "are just gonna leave this heres snapped in half wood exposed. he said file a claim as he was jumping in his truck to do 70 mph down my residential street. needless to say i dont use ups anymore.

with that being said why was the cue shpped in a triangle??? if it was broken even fully insured they can claim inproper packing.... why people skimp on shipping is beyond me. you gotta skimp alot of dollars to make up for 1 broken cue

glad u came out unharmed.

also i know if it has a hoppe ring its to spec

Rolls of carpet come rolled around a very heavy duty tube that is 12 feet long and about 6 inch or so wide. Most carpet stores will have a lot of these laying around and will give you one or sell it real cheap.
Wrap the cue in bubble wrap and off it go's. They are so thick you have to cut them with a saw.

Fine, for those that don't care about how our precious belongings are transported, here is a damn pic.....

The shipper was lucky. Even if the cue was insured, the claim would have been denied. USPS requires "fragile" items to be double boxed, and will not pay off in the event your item is damaged unless it was packed according to those guidelines.

The triangle tube is fine if another tube is used inside. U-Line sells 3" .125 cardboard tubes that are 36" long. Those tubes are stronger than the white .088 tubes USPS and others sell. The same cue, packaged inside a tube as well as the triangle box might have not kept it from damage, but would have kept it eligible for an Insurance claim.

I never ship a cue in just the round tube either, they have a tendency to roll around and wind up lost or in places more susceptible to damage.

I have used PVC pipe inside a triangle tube too, but I believe the thicker cardboard tubes work well enough.

You can also see from the damage that shipping Express makes no difference in how safely your package is handled.

Dammit Ross. I'm paraphrasing here but this feels a bit like Vince Vaughn in the beginning of Wedding Crashers when he's talking to his secretary about the game he plays where you just put it part way in. You're shorting us man.
