Hello everyone!
Im plaing with older Helmstetter VIP´s, i own 2 and i like the hit allot.
The thing is that i started to play with meucci and bought my first helmstetter to get a more solid hit!!! Now im looking to get me a eaven mor solid hit in a new cue, i did some research and the following cue brands is what im looking at.

What kind of joint flat or pilot: wood, ivory or stainless steel?

i think if u liked hard hitting hit, then perhaps Stainless steel is right for u as it probably has the loudest of the hit among wood and ivory... and well when it comes to stainless steel then Tim Scruggs is one of the best in the business...
 
If you are on a small budget or not willing to spend much Jensen cues are great playing cues for the money. They are not very fancy, just the traditional style and there have been a few for sale on this forum for under $1000. His SS joints, and milk dud tips are his specialty. The tips are very hard and will last a long time. The resale is not very great on his cues because I think they are made more to be a playing cue than a collectable. If that is an issue go with the Scruggs, Mottey etc. The problem is you will also have to pay more.
 
Of the ones you listed, if you go for a piloted steel joint, I would narrow it to:
Phillippi
Mottey
McDaniels
Scruggs
Jensen

The two that will retain their value the best are the Scruggs and Mottey, but they will cost you more. You can get quite a lot of cue for the money for a Phillippi or McDaniels. From what I understand Bill McDaniels and Tim Scruggs are very good friends (or at least used to be) and worked together on designs, refining techniques, etc. in the past.

I have a Jensen for sale that can be seen on a post I just put up this morning in the Cue Gallery section of this forum. Very nice, straight, and almost new. I would rate it at 95%, 2 shafts with ivory ferrules, 13mm. Ivory Hoppe ring, fat butt, but it is a big pin flat faced joint cue, probably not the hard hit you are looking for. $900

Also posted a Scruggs for sale yesterday. $1500 but it has a flat faced radial pin. Again, a very solid good hitting cue, but not a hard hit as you mentioned. Good luck in your search.
 
cues I have

I have a few cues that match your discription that Im willing to sell

1.Viattorre (1 year waiting list to get a new one) six points purple heart,3 veneers, into curly maple forarm, ivory hoppe ring, ivory joint with radial pin, dashed ring work, leather wrap, 2 shafts with ivory ferrels.

2. Jerry Olivier, sneaky pete with a band of Cocabola in the butt, black collars with silver rings, 1 shaft, 3/8 10 pin.

3. Jim Odom, extreamly nice players cue, Solid Ivory joint, four point, no wrap,
horn hoppe style ring, 2 shafts with Ivory ferrels, 3/8 10 pin.

I only deal with cues that have a wood to wood joint or Ivory joint as nothing replaces the feel and hit.

What is the weight on the Viattorre?

solid cue

For the dollar nothing will come close to a Bob Frey sneaky pete with a stainless steel joint.Google cuesnthings and you will be able to get one with little or no wait. You might not ever buy another cue that plays any better.Bob's # is 1-410-747-7392.You will be put on a list and pay the same as if you contact his distrubitor,cuesnthings ask for J.P.

when i toul you i like to have a more solid hit i did not mean that i like to hit hard as hell, simply that i like the cue to be more stiff to get more control.
im allso curious on the wood to wood hit everybody talks about, can someone give me a good description on the differenc betwean wood and stainless joint?

"Hit" and "feel" and "playability" are all subjective terms that don't mean to you - what they mean to me. Don't know if there are any cuemakers where you live but there is no substitute visiting a cuemakers shop and hitting cues.
Some wood to wood joints hit sharp and crisp and "hard" while some SS jointed cues (like Jensens and Scruggs0hit soft like butter.

You can can get a ton of SS cue by purchasing a Jensen. I personally think Jensens play and hit as well as any, and I mean, any SS jointed cue. If you are on a budget and want to purchase a SS jointed cue - buy a Schon.

Cokers have a reputation for actually hitting "soft."

The Viattorre I have wouldnt be good for you if you love to hit the balls hard. If you truely like to hit them that hard stay away from Ivory joints anf ferrels, as they will crack and break under "Hard Conditions":p Also, avoid playing on simones and centenial cloth. Or you could always learn how to spin the ball to get where you need to go. As your game progresses, then get into Ivory, once you do you wont go back to anything else;)
