New Custom Back Brace

I finally bit the bullet on the cost of a custom lumbar back brace. I was fitted by an Ortho doctor that both my wife and myself know and have worked with.

I've been hitting the balls for 5 days now and no pain after an hour of 14.1 and soft break 9 ball. So far I've kept it at about an hour at a time. Today I played 3 times for about an hour each and have no pain, not even any tightening. I'm so glad I didn't give that table to a boys and girls club. I came close. They wanted me to pay to have it delivered and set-up.

Now as long as I don't start feeling frisky and 18 again, I have a hunch I can play a little while longer. Johnnyt

Good news! Congratulations. Can you please post a photo of the brace. I am sure many can use it. When I stired my Non Paraliel Novelty table and put up the Centennial, my back sure noticed the difference. The older tables are 3" higher.

I have a Valley with the Rridgeback Rails and 4 1/4" corner pockets. I have the legs screwed almost all the way out and it's up on 2" blocks. Johnnyt

My Spine looks like it was run over by a D-10 Caterpillar after numerous
Racing Accidents and three Plane Crashes.

Hey Johnny, Good for you and I got a custom brace story you'll appreciate.

I had a real bad left knee and my doctor ordered me a custom brace for it. The insurance company said no you don't need a custom one so they refused to cover it. They did say they would cover and off the shelf model. That pissed me off since my doctor was a good guy and felt I needed the custom. So I went several rounds with the insurance company over the phone losing each time. On my last conversation with them they denied me coverage again, so I asked them if my insurance covered me for a second opinion? The gal got quiet and finally said, yes you can get a second opinion. I then said Oh Good then we can start all over with a new doctor and see what he says. There was along pause this time as she realized this was going to cost them more than the knee brace and she said you'll be hearing from us. Two days later I got a nice note in the mail authorizing my custom knee brace. Those folks at the insurance company sure are nice!

best off trashing it if the above is the case.
sounds like they don't really want a table.

However, sounds like you are back. no pun intended

best of luck with the back brace, pain sucks.

You crashed how many planes??
and how many race cars??

I assume you piloted these vehicles.
but three plane crashes is a miracle.

I've been trying for a few hours to get my camera to work. I thought I had taken the battery out of it last time I put it away. I cleaned the contacts with electric spray and put a new battery in it, but it must be fried. I'll have to get a new one.

Anyway the brace has an air bladder to adjust it. It's pretty cool, the way I can adjust it to keep pressure on one side or the other side of my spine. It feels like I could push it back in place in case it goes out again. I have no idea what it cost. We have insurance that my wife handles, plus a supplement plan. I think I heard her say to the doctor, "please don't tell him what it cost or he'll have the big one right here in your office".

I'm lucky also, as I stand pretty upright when I shoot. I did start getting back in stroke today, as I ran 3 racks of 9 ball a few times. It really feels great to be able to play again. I was getting so depressed my wife was going to ask my doctor to give me a script for some "happy pills". I'm sorry if I've been a bit of an a$$hole the last few months on here. Johnnyt

You say it's custom so did you get it fitted with a drink holder?? And if not all I can say is you should have posted here about the custom brace before you bought it

Glad it's working out for you =)

Off topic, Sorry Johnny . (2) 0-1 Bird Dog Crashes in South East Asia ... 67-68.
(1) Stunt Plane Crash into Power Lines, racing through a river canyon. The
water softened the impact enough to spare my life. Christen Eagle II -- Junk :frown:
(5) Dragster Crashes @ 200-275 mph. (3) Drag Bike Crashes above 150 mph.
(1) Bike Crash on Freeway @ 150+ ... (1) Drunk Driver Crash at night, down a
80 ft. embankment, rolled 5 times, damn near lost my left leg, almost croaked.
Eighteen months later I was driving again. A-hole who side swiped me, Got Away :frown:

I'm hoping a really good back brace will extend my playing time.

The reason I asked for a picture is the first thing my Dr will say is, "What kind of a brace do you mean"? One from a cell phone is fine.
Thanks ,
Phil

LOL. I know this is hard to believe , as everybody's got one or 3. I don't own a cell. I'm almost deaf. I owned a pager back in the 1970's for a few days. My wife bought me one for my drive home after closing my poolroom 7 nights a week. I was driving home stoned on grass and Black Bute's when it started vibrating on my hip in the dark car. I freaked-out, thought it was some animal and ripped it off my belt and threw it out the window. That must have been some good $hit. Johnnyt
