New game: Colors

I know this game

A local guy, one of the best around, told me about this as a practice game.
Not quite as sophisticated but great for strategy.

An internet correspondent has developed a new game that resembles the old game of cribbage with some twists. If you get tired of a steady diet of 8 or 9 or 14.1, you might try it. See http://www.sfbilliards.com/colors_game.pdf

It's free.

You are right, Bob, it is Cribbage. We played Colors/Cribbage in the early 60s here and it was an old game then. Use to be fun.

Cribbage was one of the games played where I learned as well. I wondered at that time why it wasn't by color rather than sum. I think that cribbage is not so interesting to better players, but for those who are starting to learn position, it's a good game to get them thinking about what can be done easily with the cue ball.

Ilona Bernhardt - a world class player who quit - introduced me to the colors version of cribbage about 15 years or so ago. I like the game actually it's a fun and good practice game.

Unlike Cribbage, the first companion ball in COLORS does not spot. The second companion ball then, if consecutively missed, must be followed by the Black ball that spots, as in the game of Snooker.

The Black pairs up with and follows all balls with the companion already pocketed previously. The Black 8 can follow these balls at anytime during the game.

That is the 'twist' that makes it different from Cribbage.

COLORS can be found at www.sfbilliards.com
Q&A for the game can also be found under the miscellaneous files section there.
