New Gold Crown

Wha- happen?

New gold crown? Let somebody else take the depreciation hit...unless your house has too much money.

GC6....
The good. Nothing special.
The bad...Ugly as shit. Horrible finish..especially black. Wayyy over priced. Wayyy. Saw one close up and stopped there

Black Wolf is just a new version of a Century/Centurion. Looks good but its pretty lame compared to a GC.

Black Wolf is a piece of garbage. I played on a new 9 footer about half a dozen times and would not recommend it to anyone remotely serious - just cheaply made in every regard - played terribly. Go for a nice GC4 - that one was much better

Pros and cons for a Gold Crown VI or Black Wolf?
In regards to the Gold Crown VI:

Pros:
  • They have 1" slate
Cons:
  • There are WAY too many pieces... If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the 2 that I've set up came in more than 20 boxes
  • There is no instruction sheet... Not a big deal for most tables, but the 2 that I set up had left over components that I couldn't quite figure out a good use for
  • The VI does not have it's own integrated leveling system. Not a big deal, but I feel that it is a downgrade from the V
  • Many of the rail/casting components don't fit correctly without modification
  • The QC on the cushion/facing installation apparently does not require flush trimming
  • The factory featherstrips are trash
  • The finish is not durable
  • The price tag is unreasonable
  • Proper installation is only possible with a highly skilled installer

In regards to the Black Wolf:

Pros:
  • They have 1" slate
Cons:
  • The construction not only looks cheap, but feels cheap as well
  • The frame design is weak. Much like its similar predecessors, the pedestals will loosen with time, and allow the table to sway
  • The quality of the slate is poor. The last Black Wolf that I installed had the absolute worst set of new slates that I've ever come across. In fact, after 4 hours, I threw in the towel on getting the seams perfectly flush, and the slates completely flat and level. I take an immense amount of pride in my ability to level and true up slate. Unfortunately, I had to concede that it just wasn't possible, to my standard of acceptability. I actually helped the customer file a warranty claim, to get a new set of slates

when Johnny opened his new place and had 2 VIs, I played on them the first week they were set up. No thanks. Was not enjoyable at all.

Balls kept getting hung up in the rails but I’m sure that was an install issue. It was a far, far cry from a GCIV. Not even close.

Stick with bruns wick

I played on 2 GC6's this summer in Greece. I loved them. I thought they played exactly like every GC I've played on before. I also thought they looked nice in person.

I can't remember now if the 6's I played on were drop pockets or ball return.

I've played on a few 5's recently with ball returns, and the return box is about twice as wide as it was on the 1-4. It does not seem a big deal, until you are bent down to get the balls and you have to fish your hands everywhere to find them. A complete pain in the ass, I get mad just thinking about it. If the 6 has the same width box as the 5, I'd def get drop pockets.

I’ve played on a few 6’s they are good. Way too much $, but that’s a different topic. The 6’s are solid tables.

What you say about the gc is what I hear a lot of installers say on the fb pages. Installation is a nightmare. Holes don’t match up . Left over parts that don’t make sense. I’d like to hear if rkc has installed one and what he thinks. I would love to see Brunswick return to glory but at this point I just have this feeling they are owned by a big conglomerate who just cares about the name and not the product. Right now it’s diamond or rasson and if you’re getting a 7 footer it’s only diamond To me. If I want a Brunswick I’m going to the secondary market picking up the best older table I can find and having It professionally installed. Why waste the money on a new table that seems to be inferior that will just lose value the second you buy it anyway.

Lol I never gave that a thought but being in my 50s and someone who definitely has to watch his back from work and 30 plus years of playing pool that would be annoying

I don't think that's the case at all. IIRC, Mark Gregory and Oscar Dominguez are involved in the development of the GCVII. Brunswick is also sponsoring Oscar so I'm hopeful they are starting to get more serious about pool and the pro game.

There involvement means nothing to me. Just because you can play doesn’t mean you understand what goes into building a table. I just know what I’m reading from installers on all ends of the country and none of its good

Mark Gregory is one of the top mechanics in the country and also builds tables from the bottom up. Oscar’s input is not only from a player’s perspective, but also from his knowledge and experience installing and working on tables with his dad who is also a top mechanic.
