New Here? - Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone, my name is Scott Richardson. I have been on this sight for a few years, so decided to join. There are people I respect that post regularly, including Jay Helfert. I have been playing since about 18., which was 1982. I spent 20 years in the navy from 84-04. I opened a business, and quit until about the last year. I played at a pretty high level from the late 80s until late 05 until I started back recently. I love pool, and am happy to be back. thanks, Scott

At first I wanted to do online lessons, but not only does he not do that, he also said it is more beneficial having a live lesson.
After taking the time with him, I am now convinced! He was awesome!

Intro from Idaho

Hello,

Just so no one thinks I'm trying to trick anybody, my name is Jim and I live in Idaho. 😄

I played pool or, most often, snooker almost every day, back in the late '60s through the mid '70s. Life got in the way and I have only recently decided I should try to get in a few more strokes before the run's over. Imagine my chagrin to discover how hard it can be to find a room these days. I haven't been able to find a snooker or carom table within 500 miles. (Of course, I do live out in the sticks.)

I do have a table project I hope to get going on, so, I expect to have some questions for the mechanical threads.

Regards, all,

Jim

Hello from the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. I live on Clarksburg. I grew up playing with family. My 78 year old father still shoots a straight cue. My uncles and grandfather all played. Wife and I shot a lot when we were single. Now that our nest is empty we have started again. I put a 8’ Brunswick Medalist in the garage. Been playing a couple hours a day for a few months now. Slowly getting back in the swing. Glad to be here.

I've recently joined in hopes of gathering some information on the value/sellability of a couple of cues
You will get good information at AZBilliards about cue values, but you will also get posts that the cue is absolute garbage, that it can be sold if you pay the buyer, and that you are less than human to have bought it. Look for the consensus and ignore the outliers among the posts.

Thank you!!

Brand new here. Just retired from the Army and moved to a lake in SC. Finally have permanent space for a table. Playing experience for the most part time limited to playing at bars. Currently in the process of trying to buy my first table.

Hi all,

I am Scott, based just outside Glasgow, Scotland.

Played a bit as a kid on English 6ft reds and yellow tables, then went decades never going near a table until a family holiday when me and my then 10 yr old son were in a bar called Game Changers on I drive in Orlando that had 2 pool tables that he couldn’t get enough of. This was 8 years ago. He’s now 18 and better than me.

A local club in Rutherglen Glasgow opened up that has about 8 English tables and 6 Rasson Ox 9’ American tables (as we call them) so we became regulars in there. The club is owned by Jayson Shaw’s sister and her family I believe, as we have seen him in there a few times.

Beautiful venue where the tables are kept in pristine condition and reclothed at least once a year from what I have seen.

Neither of us plays competitively, although we should/could probably try it, my son especially as he is better than me.

We play mostly 9 ball, I have tried 14.1 but even just me on the table I find it too hard….. getting that last ball in the right place, and then the CB in the right place to be able to split the pack is a real challenge.

I play most of my shots hitting the centre of the CB, either middle, or top and bottom, that gets me mostly where I want to go, as soon as left or right is attempted, it falls apart 😂

So our new addiction helped with a house move that resulted in a converted garage where we now have a Rasson Ox 8ft table with Simonis tournament blue cloth, and some Aramith TV black balls. Much as I’d have loved a Diamond or Brunswick GC, they are double the cost here in the UK, and we are not good enough to justify that. As it stands, we are just using the Aramith cues that came with the table pack, as none of us feels we are good enough yet to justify spending big £££££s on cues.

Room was too small for a 9ft, and even with the 8ft we need to revert to smaller cues occasionally, but we can live with this.

Have been reading this forum for a few months and have already picked up some tips that have improved my play

I’m 53 now and getting close to retirement, so the aim is to spend the retirement when it comes getting betters

Great forum, have really enjoyed reading it so far.
