Zirroe / Buck Horn Joints
Zirroe,
I have a question, about buckhorn joints and thought maybe you could give me your take on them. Obiously they look pretty cool, but I've also heard they play a little "lively". That can be taken a lot of ways. In fact, playabilityis always my #1 priority. I've been playing with 5/1thx14 piloted stainless steel joints on high end production cues since I got back into the game after a long layoff, but I remeber the type of feedback I was getting with an older custom cue I had when I was playing a lot. I'm currently playing with a Pechauer butt with a 314-2 and while it plays well and is acurrate as hell, I really miss that type of feedback of a 3/8th wood to wood joint. The custom I had was a SP w/3/8thx10 ith a phenolic joint. Still wish I had it.
While I realize that the shaft has alot to do wth the hit and LD low deflection shafts (most with the hollow tip end) don't have that solid premium shaft feel, I've opted over the last couple of years to go w/ the Predator shafts with a decent buut and stainless piloted joint because of the "point and pocket" characteristsics. Butmy games almost all the way back and my net cue will be something put together by Kent Davis or someone who can make something of equal quality and playability. So I'm putting together some specs and that's why I'm wondering about the different joint materials. So any onfo/opinions/ suggestions you have would be appreciated.
Incidentally, that ebony/snakewood Kent Davis is really the bomb. I love wrapless cues and I really love that combination of the woods. If it plays as good as it looks, it's got to play great!
Thanks man,
KII
