New Member with Question About Old Cue...

Hello all. New member here. I used to play Billiards fairly regularly and seriously (never professionally) many, many years ago. I just recently got the urge to pick up my old cue and start shooting again and realized that the cue I used to play with over 20 years ago has become quite collectible.

According to the guys over at Meucci, I've got a six-pointed Meucci Original OL-3. They were not, however, able to tell me what a cue like this might be worth on the used market today, only that it sold in the $500-$600 range when new.

I've included some pics below and was hoping the knowledgeable members here could give me an idea of what this baby is worth. I want to start playing again but, honestly, at this point I'd just as soon sell this cue and buy something a little less expensive to get back in the game with. Plus, I could really use the extra cash! ;)

The cue has lived in the hard case pictured with it and has not hit a ball in around 20 years. It is still straight as an arrow. I actually won it in a game (while shooting with another Meucci) and could not believe how well it played. Perfectly balanced and smooth.

Here are the pics. I truly appreciate any input. Thanks! :)

I would think this cue in this market is worth around $300 give or take a few bucks, looks like a nice cue.

Meucci Orginals are still regarded as a quality cue. With two shafts the Originals can be worth quite a bit to a collector.

Since the late 80s and early 90s the quality has been suspect. The new 'script' style is Meucci logo cues have lost a lot from the retail costs.

IMO, on the average, it is difficult to find Meucci collectors.

I would keep playing with it - they aren't so valuable that you would put it away.

This may be disappointing to hear, but Meucci Originals are somewhat collectible - but so many come up for sale it keeps the prices low. The Meucci brand has also suffered some quality issues which has tarnished the name and seems to hurt the resale -even of the older cues.

The Oldie 3 (OL 3) is one of the fancier old Meucci's and I like it. There is a great deal of inlay work and detail on that cue that doesn't show up in the photos. Still, like Lenny says, the value is only in the $300 - $400 range, deduct for any repairs or warpage. I had an OL-3 with the old logo just like that - I sold it 4 or 5 years ago and it brought $450, but the cue market has dropped a little since then.

Ps: Edited to add the materials on this cue are good quality. it has a nickle-silver joint and inlays, real wood throughout. The later models switched over to plastics and that really helped to bring them down.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I may hold on to it. It plays so well and it appears that the value is not as high as I thought and thus, not an impediment to actually using it without fear.

Btw, the cue and shaft are both still straight as an arrow. Like I said, they haven't been touched in about 20 years and have sat in a hard case in a climate controlled environment.

And Tate, yes, it does have the nickel/silver joint which I love. Gives it a bit more of a solid hit and feel than the wood jointed Meucci's I played with.

Hello Jack and welcome to AzB;

I very recently bought a similar cue from a member here on azb. Mine is a pristeen Meucci OL-1. I paid $450. incl shipping. You can use this as a reference point for pricing as these two models are quite comparable, the OL-3 being slightly fancier. These old original Meuccis are of very good quality, especially compared with the much less impressive newer Meucci cues.

Thanks Brian! I actually saw that listing but the price was not listed as it had already been sold. I was wondering what it had gone for and figured that my cue would be of comparable value.
