New Personal Record

Today I started my record at a little after 11:00am. I throw 15 balls on the table, no clusters, nothing touching the rail, and nothing in the jaws of the pocket. You get cueball in hand for the first rack and you run 15 balls off, if you miss you start over. My previous personal best was 101 balls with out a miss. I usually average 50-60 balls. Today I ran 13 racks and 9 balls.
13 X 15 = 195 + 9 = 204 204 balls, thats twice my previous record and some.
It took around 50 minutes to do... I shoot at a pretty fast pace and I was sweating bullets. It's a fun exercise to do and fairly easy to get a good score.
The table we have is an old US billiards barbox (7footer).

Just thought I'd share my record and a good drill to practice shot making.

Seems like a good drill for building confidence, but I can think of other ways of practicing for better results. Practice a lot of straight pool to learn how to deal with clusters. And put everyball on the rails and take ball in hand and see how many you can run. Practice making those rail shots while criss crossing your position from one side of the table to the other. This will make you a better nine ball player for sure.

Sounds like you might be a good contender in the Drivermaker Invitational.
Pretty sporty shooting, little dude. Now, make SURE you do ALL of your HOMEWORK first before getting on the table when school starts up!! (Or I'll be on your case like I am with every other high schooler on this forum)

Tanner ...

That's very good. Sounds like you are getting the basics
down pretty good. They are important on a daily basis,
but in tough matches, it often comes down to 'non-basic'
shots that make the difference in winning or not. Basics
are like just getting a basic car. It runs, it performs, but
not a lot of options. When you add banking skills, masse
skills, jump shot skills, safety play, breaking skills, racking
skills, those things are like adding 'options' to your basic
car.

One game that you might find useful, and is sort of fun
to play, and that we play here in Wichita in leagues, is
a game Terry Young, owner of Rumors billiards invented
called 10 ball. Use any 10 balls, and rack in a small triangle
like 8 ball in any order. Break, after the break, whether
you make a ball or not, if you run the rack, you get a
strike. If you miss a ball, you then get ball in hand, and
continue to run the rack, and if you do, you get a spare.
If you miss again before the rack is done, you just get
the total balls made. You shoot 10 frames just like
bowling does, and scores just like bowling. A perfect
score is 300. Do this several times and keep track of
what your 'average' is.

I believe this game to be a good test of someone's basic
Pool skills, and I have developed a handicap system using
this game as the basis for that determination.

Ya I have plenty of drills to sharpen skills...

6000 v-cash comes from knowing players skills, v-cash management, and some luck. As i said in another thread my v-cash management class starts 7:00 pm tonight :p

That game wasn't invented by him, it's called Bowlliards and it's in the BCA rule book. It can be quite fun. There's also a couple of online bowling score calculators to do your scoring. I do however think it's much better practice to use all fifteen or play straight pool.

Here's the calculators:

Excellent shooting Tanner...DM's right, you've gotta play this December in the online tournament.

Speaking of DM's Holiday tornament, when I got back from the WPBA in Peoria, I decided to start practicing his game. In one five game stretch, I only missed the last ball of the last game, for a five game score of 98. :) That's 74 balls in a row, with 24 of 'em in rotation, by far my best playing ever. I was so excited I didn't sleep well that night.

BTW, DM, I was using different aiming techniques than I normally do (along with a change in stance and grip). Thanks for that.

Tanner, hope to see you at the tournament in December...my score is going up...maybe I'll be the most improved player this year.

Now THAT is one hell of a run and score for 5 racks. But in the words of Dirty Harry (with just a little twist)...."Well didja get LUCKY...Now didja, PUNK?!" :D (great run)

Tell me more about the invitational and the game scoring... :)

Go to search at the top of the forum page and click onto it. In the box, type in I'm So Sick Of 9-ball. It'll give you the rules. You can also do a search for
Drivermaker Invitational and you'll see many of the scores.

It's pretty much what you're doing, except rather than tossing the balls on the table, you make a full break. You run all the balls off until the last 5. Then you run those off in numerical order like 9-ball. It'll tell you how to keep score along with the rules. Give it a try and have fun...and start getting prepared to DO THAT HOMEWORK!
