New player. I want to start with a cue that won't cripple me. Max $150

I have a Cuetec right now. Though I do enjoy how smooth the plastic coating is on it, I keep reading that in the long run I'll wish I had a wood cue. So I'm entertaining offers for something in the 100-150 range.

Thanks,
Rob

For McDermott, the price range is pretty wide. I'm assuming a good chunk of that is to account for artistic components, but is it safe to say that I could get the absolutely cheapest McDermott there is, and it's still going to be a great cue for me to learn on?

Don't know much about the Dominiak Sweet 16. Can you tell me about it?

How about an inexpensive custom.

This is one of my early cues. Not real fancy, but a great hitter.

$150 w/one shaft or $190 w/2 shafts

Specs:
Curly Maple forearm & butt sleeve
Salmon w/white spec linen wrap
Four Bocote points
Four Bocote ovals in butt sleeve
Bocote accent rings at butt & joint
Matching rings on shaft(s)
Black phenolic joint & butt cap
5/16-18 piloted joint
19.3 oz. (19 oz. w/second shaft)
Balance 18 1/2" (18 w/second shaft) from butt cap
13mm shaft(s) w/Titan ferrule
Emerald tip on first shaft
LePro tip on second shaft

have you though about having someone make a shaft for your butt.
You should be able to get a shaft made to your liking in that price range.
Look on the internet & find a cue maker & discuss it with him or her.
That way you will be shooting with something you helped develope.
Taper, tip size, ferrule & joint material.
In the future you can change things to fit your desire.
On your next shaft you might say "i think i would like to have a less stiff hit" & you will have something to compare it to.

Good luck in your search.

McDermott D6

I have this McDermott that is right in your price range, I have 127 in it, make an offer over 100.00 and ir may be yours. It is in above average condition, a solid player and was made back in the 80's. The shaft does have a tiny bit of taper roll, nothing you notice until you roll it on a table. I would say a few .001 th. There are also a few finish chips/dings from normal use. Pm me if interested.

Mcdermott, Viking, Players, and Fury are in your price range and play great. Try a few and find out what plays best for you.

I have a perfect McDermott "Smooth Blade". Can be seen in my thread, "McDermott "Smooth Blade" cue for sale". It is also for trade. Thanks

Man:eek:, Cant believe this a Bill Shubert, Lee Peppers, and Dominiak for a buck fifty. You need to jump on this. I dont know if i could make the decision. I think i might would have to buy all three if i had the money.

Hey all,

Thanks to everyone that offered deals and/or advice.

I decided to go with the Dominiak. I agree with the poster who said he would have to buy all three customs I was offered. I only wish I had the money.

My new Dominiak Sweet 16 should be here a couple days. I can't wait!

Thanks again!
Rob
