Yeah Flex, Marco's better...and not, just in my opinion.

That's really saying something.

At the one pocket tournament at Chris's recently, there was one table that Gentile ran out that positively amazed me. He was playing Jet.

No surprise there...Chris plays great one pocket.

IN Larry York

Even though he doesn't really play anymore, even since he was a kid he always played incredible one pocket. The list of champions who came through Executive and lost to him is long.

Used to be on Friday's for sure (sometimes other days of the week), Oaks and York would match up on the front table and it was just great to watch two such contrasting styles. Oaks very methodical and Larry knew so many shots that it seems only he knew, whether it was kicks or kick banks, or playing balls off of other balls, it was great.

'Resl,
The first time I saw LY, he was in a golf game on the snooker table in the back of Airport. He was cussing up a storm, yelling at and insulting his opponent (Mark W.) - I thought there was going to be a fistfight for sure. Turns out they are best of friends, and it was all in fun, but damn they had me fooled.

I've been told by one of the local pro's that at one time Larry was the best golf player in the state as well.

Larry would used to have to give up spots like the side or he would go around 2x to your one to get golf games. His golf game came from him playing with Stormy

One of the cool things about when you could play Larry one pocket is that you would play for scratch off lottery tickets and split any winnings. So you're playing a top notch player and while you may lose $20 in scratch off tickets, you may hit for $100 and make money lol.

It is a lot like the old game of watching the paint dry. Very exciting.

I used to think that too, but now I liken it to a bike race in a Velodrome. Almost standing still, nothing happening, jockeying for a favorable position, then BAM! Full tilt, race ahead and running out, slicing, dicing and banking. It uses every skill there is - banking, cut shots, intricate safeties, caroms and combos, and some strokes that rarely come up in other games.

It's a lot like chess in its intricacies, not only thinking about offense and defense, but what will they do back if I do this?

And if there is money on the line, you will see how strong their heart is.... as well as your own.

The problem with 1-p is that each pocketed ball is so critical...you really have to bear down. A hanger is not so great, (like it is in 8 ball) if it is not protected, and then you see all that hard work where you finally got it near your pocket, blasted out with a fine takeout and put on your opponent's side. Dang it!

Watching top one-pocket minds think and play is actually quite exciting, IMHO.

Yep, Don is a straight pool champ and an excellent player of any pool game.

Years back, Larry used to come up to Chicago once in awhile. About 12-15 years ago or so, he came up and we played some One Pocket for about 7 hours....It was a good match, I enjoyed playing him..........And always traveling with him was a real nice guy that I liked, I forget his name - kinda shortish guy with glasses and a full beard, jeans and a plaid flannel shirt - do you, Willie, or any Indy guys know who I mean ?

somewhere in this thread somebody said that mark haddad is the best one pocket player in CO. that is correct. marc vidal probably runs a close second

How about Sylver Ochoa? I don't know for sure but I believe his record may be a little stronger over the last couple of years. Who is the favorite between the two?

Give JJ a week to hit balls and he is stealing people always forget about him but he is uber talented and imo 1pocket is his best game

Down here in Texas I think it is Jeremy Jones hands down and then probably Sylver Ochoa. Joey Barnes has been playing real well lately and then there is Bill Incordona who could care less about pecking orders and after that maybe David Henson of Austin. These though are quite a distance from the rest.

I think Bastrop and his son both play better one pocket than Henson personally.
