Lots of great ideas!!!!
All great ideas...thanks everyone. My wife and I stayed up till 3am talking about everything that WE would like see happen with this room. I really do appreciate everyone?s input. This is in no way a 100% for sure thing, but after talking to my friends that will be helping out it is sure looking that way. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
1. We decided there would be no alcohol. At least for the time being, just to see how it will work.
2. No bands for the time being. We may try that at a later date
3. I decided that we would just go with all Diamonds. I prefer them just because I am freaky weird and I like things to match. I have talked to my friend; he said he would purchase all the tables, so there will be no overhead on the tables. We will also have 6 Diamond quarter tables so you don?t have to get on the ?time? tables. If this does not seem to be working out, we can always convert them to hourly tables. I am pretty set on this though?.I will charge 5.00/hr for hourly tables. 1st hr will be full price, then after 1st hr, it will be paid in ? intervals. Fri and Sat nights from 7 till close will be 6.00/hr
4. Video games will be in a separate room that can be easily monitored. That room will have LCD TV's, and its own sound system that we can control from behind counter.
5. I work at he Veterans Administration during the daytime, and my wife is a schoolteacher...So she will be the one running it during the daytime, then after I get off work, I will take over. I also have 2 very dependable and very well liked nephews and they can help run it also in the early evenings. We are looking at opening around 10am and closing around 10-11pm Mon-Thurs, 10-12pm Fri-Sat (will play that by ear).
6. Food?prices for a good burger basket (cheeseburger, fries, drink) is approx 5.50 here in the surrounding area. That also includes McDonalds and Burger King. I will be hand making the patties out of 80/20 beef and I have figured if I charge 6.50 for a burger basket, I will be making a profit. When I was in the Army, my last 2 duty stations I won the Chili cook off so I will make Chili 1 day a week. We will also have some sort of Crock Pot stew or whatever does better for each day of the week. This is to draw in local business men/women on their lunch. There are 2 manufacturing facilities within 1/2mile from where the poolroom will be. There are also a lot of businesses very close by also. I really don?t think the food will be an issue or the prices because we want you to have the feeling like you just had a home cooked meal, not a fast food type of meal.
We will also (my wife decided this) have gourmet coffee/espresso.
The dining area will be separate from pool tables and video game area and will have its own TV?s as well.
6. My cousin and his wife have a local business that makes the vinyl stickers on the backs of windows and also embroider and print custom shirts. They will make us some shirts for advertisement and as gifts to give away. They will also have a small display case that you can purchase shirts, hats, and stickers, they can put logos on coffee mugs, mouse pads, whatever you want. Shirts and hats will be given out for advertisement and as perks throughout the week.
7. Cues?I will not go crazy on this, but will carry 5-10 Schon cues, Meucci, McDermott, Joss. I will also carry the cheaper cues for beginners to buy. I will also buy a few custom cues?. probably from reputable sellers on here and straight from the cue maker themselves. I will also think would be a great idea is to contact some cue makers here on the forum and purchase a couple cues from them to sell here to ad some diversity. Maybe that will open up a new avenue for them. There is also a guy here locally that buys broken bar cues and he makes them into a 2 piece cue that play and look pretty good?. he sells them for 100.00. So I will also carry a few of them as well.
This is looking more and more like it will turn into a reality and from my vision, it looks like it will be an affordable place to come play some pool, and eat some good food and just have fun.
On a side note?I have my South West spot coming up soon, I have even considered raffling it off after the place gets good and going. I am not sure how it will work if I do it on here also, I will just have to check if I can.
Just trying to get some good solid ideas to make them work for us and be a positive light for the pool community.
