New Predator Shaft Rumor

I have a good friend that met one of the "heads" of Predator recently. He said that predator has a new shaft coming out soon. It will be made from a composite material and maple. Supposedly it will be even better than the 314-2 as far as playability and deflection goes.

just a heads up for you LD Shaft fans

Two years ago in Vegas at BCA, I was playing a slot machine and the guy next to me struck up a conversation...It was the owner of Predator cues. I can't remember his name right now but he told me then that he was working on a new shaft that would be different than any out there today. He said it would not be wood but a different material...He said, :"who says a shaft has to be made of wood?" He said this new shaft would be the shaft of the future.....Maybe this is the one he was talking about.....We'll have to see......

That could be it... I will try to get more info tomorrow.

no they haven't.

it's just a coating.

and from predator's point of view - now wouldn't be a bad time for a new shaft what with the current popularity of their rival product, the OB-1.

maybe

I think it is too early, the 314-2 and z-2 haven't been out long enough yet. Of course they will have to have something new in a year or two once the -2's have been out for awhile, it is only natural. Why do you think they make new model cars every year, they gotta keep selling cars too.

I will admit that I have just recently (only like 2 weeks) become a fan of the Predator shafts. I like their products.

Oh, yeah I suppose your right, if indeed the shaft will be entirely composite material, I quess we will have to wait until the shaft is released... If it has a maple core, then you know I was right.

Allan McCarty, the president of Predator has been a huge fan of composites for as long as I have known him. He is right about it too. Why should cues be made of wood?

I like wood - it's a versatile material with excellent properties. But it takes a long time to work it right and even then it may still move on you.

Predator has wanted to move away from wood for a long time. If Allan finally has his composite shaft ready then I am sure Predator will make a big push to get it to market.

And he isn't the first to think of using composites. Others have made full composite shafts as well as wood/composites. They all work but lack the marketing machine that Predator has. In my office right now I have eight shafts of various compositions that vary from low deflection to high deflection. Some play jam up and others are nearly useless.

Next time you see him ask Allan about the 32 layer chicken skin tip........

That's great, I just bought 2 314 2nd gen blanks and had them matched to my cue and now they're going to update the shafts.....

Predator does have the Marketing machine, and I think an all composite material shaft is the wave of the future.

I mentioned Cuetec because you know this company was on to something, unfortunately quality wasnt a major concern. Only Profit margin. Seemingly...

Predator by far has quality cues and componets, and the product works, the shafts do deflect less, and spin is easier than ever... There have been concerns, like ferrules cracking, but overall predator's quality control as well as customer support is A1..

So ok, I give into the idea, lets just make sure Quality is job 1....

I thought you didn't like Predator's quality BPG? LOL

It's cool that you are giving us a heads up though! Maybe now you will finally get a shaft that plays the way you want it to play! ;)

I know for sure the P-3 is coming out this month and will be at the Expo in North Carolina. They will be taking orders at that time. I thought the P-3 was primarily a new design in forearm/butt. I'm getting a blank 314-2 made for my Bender cue. We'll see what happens. If I win a few hundred with it, I will parlay it into a P-3 for giggles.
