What are your predictions now?

It's getting down to the good ones, and
the others that are just playing good...

My top 4:

Bustamante - My pick for 1st, been on a good run the past few months.
Niels - Tough competitor when on, practices hard.
Archer - Something to prove to himself.
Sylver - Hot shooting new kid on the block.

I like Bustamante to win also.

Also watch out for:

A side: Souquet, winner of Reyes/Parica match

B side: Owen, Immonen and McCready.

Sleeper: T. Frank

I think it's breaking just right for Souquet and Feijen, and I'm starting to think one of them gets it done this week. Of course, Archer's chances have to be taken very seriously, too.

My dark horse before the tourney began was Charlie Bryant, and he's still my dark horse. I think "Hillbilly" may have come of age with his near double hill miss vs Marlon Manalo in the 2005 WPC knockout stages, and that match may have prepared him well for the later rounds of the 2005 US Open.

The biggest mystery in the event is Nick VanDenBerg, a solid up-and-comer a few years ago whose star seemed to fade a little, but whose fortunes seemed to turn when he came within a single rack of the WPC semifinals earlier this year. Perhaps he's starting to live up to the promise he once showed.

My picks are:
Bustamante - Has been on a good run
Archer - One of my favorite players
Sylver O. - He's a hell of a young gun...not to mention he's from the Lone Star State too.

Strickland is a degenerate creature

From what I have seen during the broadcasts, Reyes and Bustamante. Based on other information, Archer and Parica.

Still early, but I imagine Bustamante, Niels, and Pagulayan must want it the baddest. I'm inclined to say whoever wins the Busta-Pagulayan match has a big chance. The way Chamat was taken out... I don't know, it seems like Bustamante has a lot of confidence. And now is the time for him to prove himself not only a feared top-flight player, but an actual champion in the majors.

Although it's hard to discount the chances of a Feijen, Bustamante, Souquet, or Reyes, IIRC, only 2 foreigners have ever won the US Open. Personally, I'd love to see Feijen pull it out - I love to watch his stroke. However, given past history, I'd have to tilt the board in favor of Hillbilly, Archer, Charlie Williams, Jeremy Jones, etc. Come to think of it, I wonder Barry would react if Charlie took down the Open....

I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, Tang Hoa is going to pull this one out. He's got heart, game, and the patience to win from here. Now I'm really going out on a limb here, Tang goes undefeated too!

Personally ....

Nothing against the guy, but I don't think Charlie
can go the distance, especially against the top flight
competitors awaiting him. He is similiar to Thomas Engert,
he is good, but always makes that mistake or two that
robs him of a win, i.e. missing that easy 6 ball in the Mosconi Cup.

I'd say anyone that can not beat Reyes or Parica is not going
to win this tournament because it will come down to it.
I didn't include Parica in my predictions before, but he is
a very good player and well seasoned to tournament play,
and should not be overlooked as a threat.

Hey Scott, you look different than last time I saw you on here. Of course I don't get on this chat as often as most of you do. But just wanted to say hi and how are the Wichita players doing?

That's my little Buddy's picture ... and his name ... I share half ownership
of him with my Mom ... I share my dinners with him when Mom has me over
to eat ... The Wichita players are still here, although a lot are staying home
more than used to, and nobody is making any money ... not much action ...
Of course, after Jr. is out in Dec., things will pick up ... lol He gets guys to
play him for $5 and $10 a game that won't play me for a $1, and they have
no chance against Jr.. plus the roadies like to come to town to play Jr. or
Mark Rogers... Wish Gabe would stop by again before long, he gets things
going too.... lol

Good to see Parica mentioned. He can do anything on any given tournament, I think. But he is one of those players that go overlooked because he doesn't possess a flashy style of play.

Wish I had a crystal ball because, due to the caliber of play in this field of players, it's a tough call.

Of course, I'm going to stand by my man and throw his name in the mix. Every single player here who is still in wants to succeed.

When Ralf Souquet was playing Earl Strickland, I was sitting in the stands with Billy Incardone during the beginning of the match. He said to me, "You know who Ralf Souquet reminds me of?" And then he started singing that old-time Top 40 song, "Smooth Operator."

Jose Parica has been in this spot before and will be giving it his all. Coming up against Efren Reyes his next match is going to provide a good exhibition of pool at its finest for the spectators.

Silver Ochoa is playing great, and he is using a lot of defense in his strategy, at least he did so against Keith when he beat him. Time will tell if he's able to hold his own against the Super Stars, but one thing for sure, he's got nothing but pure guts and a lot of heart to keep it going. He's kind of a quiet fellow on the offs, but very friendly and polite.

It's too early to predict a winner, but at this stage of the tournament, the championship title is still up for grabs.

Funny... I have Gabe's dog....and cat. He dropped the dog off 6 years ago, for me to watch for 2 weeks, while he went to play the tournament in Las Vegas that May. His cat he dropped off 2 years ago. Well, he had 2, but only one left now....won't go into that.
I have to pick him to win, because we need dog & cat food, as I'm sure we'll be watching them for a few more years as he keeps up with his travels. He should be here by the holidays, last Christmas he was a little late because he didn't feel well when he returned to Tulsa from the Mosconi Cup.
So happy to hear Jr is getting out soon!! Hopefully he'll have all that behind him and keep it that way. I've known him since he was 16 yrs old, he's always been a hoot! And I always enjoyed watching him play, in his often entertaining ways.
But I need to put Jones name in the winner's pot too! Gabe & Jones, 1st & 2nd, doesn't matter who takes which spot.
Just read from JAM's post that Corey is out, bummer.
It can only get more thrilling over the next couple of days with all the players still in!

Gabe always, but he has to win like 10 or 11 matches in a row now, and they
will be hard real quick .... of course, he did it last year, didn't he? Tournaments are real hard to win 2 years in a row though, especially as high
caliber as this one is ... 1 little mistake or bad roll can do you in ... it's just so
much easier to do in the winner's side, than the 1 lost side of the bracket ...
And he has been playing good recently, just like Bustamante has. Seems like Gabe and Double J end up having to play each other a lot in tournaments ...
This tournament is getting better and better, and I can feel the pressure and anticipation building up inside me .... lol
