Cocobolo, I have matching joint protectors with the same rings, silver & ivory in the rings, ivory joint, so the price goes up a little. You actually pay for the playability of Ed's cues. Just because it has no points, I wouldn't exactly call it a plain jane, IMO.

Playability is like the word hit, it is not measurable on a Scale, and is a Personal Interpetation.

As far as Plane Janes go I think ED is the big money Guy, as he seem to go for the Most $$$;)

You are correct hit is subjective. It's well balanced and feels good when you stroke it. :D

A plain Jane from Bill Schick starts at $3,000. Have you ever shot with a Prewitt? IMO, Ed makes a great cue and they feel good in the hand and I like the feel of the hit the cue produces. Nice cues IMO, and you know what they say about opinions.

It has ivory, silver and abalone rings and ivory collar.
You still call that plane jane?
Plane janes to me are those phenolic collared and buttcapped cues with no rings .
As far as the hit, yes it can be measured.
By the buyers' opinions and demands .
Ed's USED sneakies sell for more than a lot of custom 4 pointers out there.

Nice looking cocobolo on that EP cue! Ed's build quality is meticulous and precise--one of the things I love about his cues in general. Did you order the black delrin buttcap? I hope you get lots of enjoyment with that cue.

Well I do agree about supply, and demand setting a sale price.

I got a Nice Plane Jane Pre Owned by Ted Harris, and IMO it has a GREAT HIT, but is a Plane Jane... Cocolobolo with Silver Rings, and No Point or Inlays....

Thanks, I'll get many years of enjoyment.
Yes I did, I did not want a white buttcap.

My Prewitt

Here are some closer pics of the ringwork. Each large ring has 48 abalone inlays in the ivory band.

Enjoy-

i would love to own a prewitt because i think he is the finest "small inlay" cuemaker out there. his details are ridiculous,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but so are his prices. comparisons cannot be made between ed and a man like schick who has put in decades of work to build his name. however if the market can bear his prices, then it's all good.

i tried a prewitt and didn't like the hit....it had a splintery hit,,,like bamboo. it was his "plain" BEM cue, and the guy said it wasn't one of his best, but i didn't know how to take that.

still, if i have input, i could get a cue to my liking, either his basket weave or eliptical mop window cue. i'm just waiting for my lottery numbers to come in :):)
