? New Push Out Rule ?

Rather see them go back to the game as it was--2 shot foul and let that be that. There would be quiet a difference in how the game is played--bring back spot shots and kicking and such--along with that I might add--do a way with jump cues and only be able to use the cue you brought to the table--maybe a break cue--but no be able to use that cue except for the break.

I am also old enough to remember push out. The game was at least tolerable then, even if only in a miniscule sort of way.

The game is what it is, like poker, senseless without betting. A boring redundant game lacking enough creativity to hold interest, just like poker when played for fun.

But it does offer a quick game for gambling.

Why would you do away with a jump cue? Wouldn't that be taking a tool out of the bag "just because"?

Why not? With the change back the jump shot would not be necessary. I'd like to see the so-called two-way shot done away with too.

Going back to the 2 shout rule would bring about more dramatic play ,,from my 2 cents being issued--lots of tricky manuvering would be brought about--there's not enough I can say about this--it was the game in my book--back when, we didn't kick for our money we ran out

Please explain how this worked. I wasn't playing pool back then.

thanks

Really needs more time than I have at the moment but here goes: If your opponent missed, say, and stuck you, you had the option to take the shot as it lay or push out, provided there had been no foul on the previous shot. If you pushed out, you opponent had the option to take the shot or give it back to you. If he gave the shot back, you had the option to shoot to make the shot or play safe. If he took the shot, he had the same options. The way I played if there was a push or a foul on the previous shot by either player you had to shoot the shot. Any two fouls in a row gave the incoming player ball-in-hand anywhere but that was the only time. Scratches went behind the head string and the cue ball had to cross the string on the incoming player's shot. In some parts of the country they played that the two fouls had to be on the same player but we never played that way.
This type of play removes an enormous amount of luck from 9 ball. It's much more strategic where TE is more tactical. I've taught people to play this way who cut their teeth
on Texas Express and they agreed it was a much better game. It is much harder to play well, however.
Gotta go!

Why not just call pocket 9ball.

Because 2-foul was a much better game than call shot 9 ball with 1-foul. Call shot along with 2 foul would be good, and in fact was played that way at one time I believe.

Call shot nine ball is often played in hopes of removing luck from the game. While it does change the game when someone lucks a ball in, It does not help when someone misses and lucks a safe. Which IMHO is the case that decides a game much more often than lucking in a ball.

Call shot and safety is pretty good, I just don't like how it changes some of the two way shots when there is only one ball left.
