New Semi-Pro ABC League Starts 7/1/13

I think this is the right way to go. Low or no travel costs along with a lot of other good points. Johnnyt

New ABC League

This concept came out of many discussions that Joe Tucker and I ave had over the last year or two.

Most of the concept and format is his.
The game - American Rotation - is his creation and it is perfect for this type of league. It s a tough game but gives a real number that means something.

If this gets traction, we can have up to 6 sessions a year.
If we get 96 rooms, the price fund will be in the $600,000 range.

We bring the tournament to the player.

It is a great concept!
Wish us luck!

when I read the press release on the front page I was pretty excited. not that I would ever be able to play in such a league but from the fan perspective it sounded great. but this is going to involve yet another new pool game?

I love this concept.

A couple of questions:

1) I am unclear on how the weekly sessions play out. Can someone explain this in a different way?

A session is a 7-week round robin with each member room hosting 4 matches per week.

2) How are the eight players from each room selected?

This is an awesome idea and I look forward to hearing more.

We're are leaving it up to the room owner or manager to invite 8 players who they feel deserve the opportunity and that they would like to see play out of their club.

The 8 players would all play each other once in the 7 week round robin in a 150 point match (1.5-2.5hr match) so with 8 players each club is hosting 4 matches per week. At the end of 7 weeks the top 4 players will advance to a 1 day, 16 player regional event. At the regionals 8 player will cash (25% of entire national field) and the top 2 will earn a spot at a 2 day national event guaranteed a minimum of $1,000 to help justify their trip and time away from their life.

You may feel you couldn't compete but if you are a player that is still looking to get better you could certainly ask for a spot in the league. If you got it you could simply use it as part of your training, once per week you know you're going to play a tough player a long set of rotation and your goal could be to consistently get more points each session. When I was a B level player I would have killed to get in on something like that.

I'm not, not going to promote a new game simply because it comes with the new game label. We're using this game for a lot of reasons but the #1 reason is to make American players better. We can all finish this quote "One of the main reasons the Filipinos are better is because they grow up playing ____________"
May not be the only reason but I'm convinced it's one.

As far as people learning it, it's not hard to understand and we really only have to teach 8 players at a time.

Ok, got it.

I like it.

I think nationally is the idea. I believe if this took off we would see a few young guns come out of the woodwork. Johnnyt
Thanks Johnny. We definitely have the up and comers in mind. I think its going provide all aspiring players with a sensible place to hang their hat.

That is exactly how the idea was born Johny. I believe the pool world misses out on a lot of high quality people and players because the past and current way of competing at a high national level simply can't be justified in a normal lifestyle,

I have to hit the road right now, here in Alabama :) and I will always try to answer any questions asap but I am currently all over the place lol so be patient or email me at jttenball@gmail.com if you need me.

Here are a couple of hurdles I'm seeing out here and if anyone has any suggestions please fire away.
#1 Every room owner likes the idea BUT getting them in touch with 8 of their regions better players isn't as easy as one would think.
#2 and this is a gem; Open and pro level players aren't use to a league format and are not sure about a 7-8 week competition, they're use to the immediate gratification thing so they don't get to excited. On the other end we have A & B players thinking they can't compete with the open and pro players who might not even play,So I have one group afraid of another group who might not even be playing, lol

I would appreciate any help spreading the word especially from Georgia up through TN KY IN OH because thats the last leg of my trip and those room owners aren't going to have a lot of time before July 1st to invite their 8 players. If you are an aspiring or high level player or simply someone that would like to see pool have their version of golfs Nike Tour (now Web.com tour) please help bring it and explain it to your local clubs and players, its win, win all around for the entire industry.

Off the top of my head I think the best solution for acquiring the eight players would be for each room to hold a qualifying tournament with the top eight players receiving a spot. This tournament could be a paid entry fee tournament with the top eight players receiving a little bit of cash money plus each room could keep out the cash required for their seven weeks of action. In other words I can enter one qualifying tournament that I have to pay my entry fee for and if I finish in the top eight than I will have won some cash plus my entry fee into the league which is paid up front. I'm sure you will agree that all seven weeks of league should be paid up front anyways to avoid no shows from the guys who are seeing themselves being weeded out as the round robin progresses.

This would be a fair way to select the eight players too.

I like that and will suggest to room owners, thx
