Here is a shot situation. Thoughts? ( this is not about right or wrong but about different solutions)

I am far from a master of 3 cushion, but assuming I am the white cue ball. I see a couple shots:

1. Full hit off the left side with some right english taking it short long short into the back of side of the red somewhat gently. (Yellow goes back and forth and hopefully ends on the same long rail for a good next shot). For me, this is a real feel kind of shot blending speed, hit and english...

2. About a quarter hit off the right side of the yellow going long short long. (If I can get yellow into the short rail it has a chance to go short, long, short and pass by the red on the same rail for a good second shot).

3. Ticky behind the red and try to stretch it out to catch the yellow. Ticky's of this sort are kind of a prayer for me. I have to practice tickys big time. Sometimes I try ticky's that just maybe be total shots in the dark, or even out of bounds...For this one, it is tough for me to stretch it long, and then the yellow being in the middle of the table makes it not exactly "big"...

Like I said, I am no master. I'd either do 1 or 2 based on how I was feeling at the time and what caught my eye...Probably, number two though.

I look forward to other replies to hear shots I did not think of, or better yet, what's the highest percentage. (Although for me, the percentage is more dictated by my familiarity with the shot, than anything...)

Steve, how do you determine if you use the yellow or red to carom off of?
I've watched a ton of matches and they hit different colors.

Here is another one.

Steve,
Your first solution would be my 1st choice as well, depending on how well I'm hitting the drop-in shot(s) that day.

Number13fan,
I like your shot as well.

Hopefully my images load. Here are my choices that I've seen shot or have seen shot. First image would my 2nd choice following Steve's shot. The others are more artistic in nature

Hello. Although I've been away from the game for quite some time, I can clearly see that the solution proposed by Zensteve is the most appropriate both in terms of natural angle/track as well as position play. The alternative proposed by number13cfan is a feasible shot although it requires a more delicate touch and of course good play conditions. If I wanted to get a bit creative I'd play a force follow from the red ball 3 cushions to make the billiard. A rail first shot into the red is also an option although the position of the yellow ball leaves little room for error. I would love to share some diagrams, alas I can't draw the lines when using the application.. I must be missing something..
