New Taig based Carriage and Headstock

I would like to see posted on this thread those pm's and texts from both sides.
That would make this thread even more interesting, also, that way I would be able to finish my popcorn and my Coke.

did everyone forget this from his last headstock thread????

Well now we're hearing the other side of the story. If the dude knew about a flaw in design and still sold them without disclosing the info about the flaws, then it's a raw deal no matter how you shake it. I understand what you are talking about. I have a steel bed from Todd that is too narrow for taig carriages, so the carriage is too big & the slop causes binding no matter what. Doesn't really matter to me because it's only used for a sanding/finishing lathe & has no carriage. But I am aware of what you are describing. I was under the impression that Bassel's beds were Taig, and only mounted on different base. I'm not that aware of his stuff so it's easy that I could be unclear. I had no idea he was manufacturing the bed itself.

Like I said in the beginning regarding Brianna and then Bassel, a machine must be thoroughly tested & abused to reveal flaws BEFORE marketing. Would be best if it could be done by a cue maker. I even explained this to Bassel via phone conversation. A knowledgeable, well established & experienced cue maker needs to work with these machines for a period of time so they can report to him the issues that need work (no i'm not interested, just suggested). I suggested he find a cuemaker near him & pay that cuemaker to use a machine & cut 100 or so shafts, build some basic cues, etc. to run it through it's paces. Apparently he didn't do that. No biggie, it was just friendly advice & doesn't concern me in the least. I thought he was a nice guy & I like the idea of somebody working toward advancing specialized cue equipment. But pretty quickly I caught the hint that that it wasn't nearly as passionate as it was hurry to start capitalizing.

People need to understand that Chris Hightower BUILDS CUES. He has for a couple decades. He knows what the lathe is supposed to do. He built himself a lathe, used it, and THEN when he realized he had a worthy machine, he marketed it. To his credit, he has altered & advanced the machines through the years. All these newer imitation machines are being produced by non-builders, and getting mods & 'upgrades' that are unproven, only theoretical. Guys are cashing in on wannabe cue makers with machines that have never been proven by real cue makers....or anybody for that matter. Point is, just because Hightower's machines are Taig based doesn't mean I can buy a bunch of Taig stuff & build a machines that works like his does, then add a couple of unproven gadgets & claim it's a better machine. I'd fail. Ask Joe Barringer about it. Love him or hate him, at least he had the sense to understand that making a cue worthy machine from Taig stuff wasn't as simple as it seemed, and he lost his ass in trying. And he admits such. At least he didn't market them anyway, knowing they didn't work. He had the idea a decade ago. If it was so easy, he'd be selling machines right now.

Anyway, i'm done with my soap box. Sorry you got duped, Snipershot. Bassel, like I advised before when you called, get your machines tested THOROUGHLY by EXPERIENCED cue makers before trying to market them, or this industry will tear you up. Looks like you are finding that out the hard way. Like I said, I will support anybody who is genuinely trying to advance specialized cue machines. But it's gotta be done right & not just a get rich quick scheme. A good product will sell itself. Junk will break you no matter how great a salesman you are. Tough lesson to learn.

and that was posted by a very respected cue maker, who uses similiar products to build his cues.

now as far as calling you about a indexer yes i did because knockoffs are cheap big whoop.

you sir are a liar and trying to make it sound like your a saint on here, but your just a 2 faced SOB here to make a buck and nothing else.

chris hightower deserves everybit of the respect i give and as i usually state I would buy a hightower first if i couldnt fit a metal lathe which is how i started.

let me ask you this how often are there any threads like this about his product???

hopefully new people will learn from this and stay away.

the only thing people are going to learn is that you are a hightower brown noser, and by the way, I dont sell knockoffs, I design my own products. I am so sick of your extreme ignorance. you and Joe and truly a very sad case, I honestly feel sorry for you, cause you are truly pethetic, the only one going after the buck is you, when you email me wanting to trade web site links for a sanding mandrel set. always trying to weezle a cheap deal.
I on the other hand make enough money from my day job. I do this sticktly for the passion and the desire to build good long lasting Cue Lathes. This will be my last reply, you guys are a joke, you highjack every thread I post, when its clearly to what your intentions are.

You like to call people names and bash others, but how come you havent denied that you said you would pay the return shipping on the headstock you insisted i send back? How come you dont deny that you highly reccomended i upgrade to a 1/2 hp motor, then told me AFTER i bought your lathe that you have had nothing but problems with them? And now you are trying to say im only after a buck? Man you got $1200 of my bucks, and its clear you laugh all the way to the bank. How many cues have you made? Have you even put a tip on before? I dont care how many of your pals get on here and defend you, the facts show who you are, and why you are here. You got me good, but i will be sure to let every person on gods green earth know how you are, and how you treat people. I have a passion to learn how to make cues, and i wont let your bad business practice stop me. I will move forward and continue to learn and get better, but you will always be known your actions here and with your sanding mandrel fiasco.

Easy with the name calling.

I have broken the rules of the forums, and for that i apologize. I will shut my big mouth now, because AZBilliards is very important to me. But this is far from over.

I offered to pay for shipping the bad controller back, but since I sent you free lube, free delrin gib, and free brand new carriage with delrin dovetail interface and a free motor swap and shipped you all the stuff back, that offsets any refunds for shipping I offers 10 fold, if you are too blind to figure that out, then you are a very greedy and selfish person
You got me good, trying to make things right. At least I tried to help, as for you, you have not tried to listen or learn anything, you will always be that way. And I regret ever selling you anything, cause you are not worthy of having my lathe. But we both know the truth, and you have already joined the brown noser club and too much of a p...y to admit that you were wrong, you sir have no morals and no manners, you are just a want to be heard loner, I am disgusted by even reading your post.
Good help you, cause we all know you need it.

Good try. I like how you are trying to lure me in to another public argument in an attempt to get me banned. No chance. I love this site. I have learned a lot, and will learn more. Im not here to just sell my goods and make an easy buck like some people.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT unhappy with my Deluxe Hightower and if I had it to do all over I would still buy it but it is not the epitomy of accuracy or rigidity. None of these small lathes are, nor are they advertised to be. I'm fairly sure I would not have been happy if I bought the Mid-Size.

I want to clear something up just in case there's a misunderstanding on what I said above. Chris sent me a PM asking me what I was unhappy about. I only had time for a quick note to him before a meeting and I will call him tomorrow about this and the one little annoyance I have that I already know how to resolve. Chris, like my friend Don, comes up with ideas I haven't thought of.

My last statement above only meant I would be unhappy with a Mid-Size lathe because I have never had plans to do repair work, and as of today, I still do not... for friends maybe but not for the general public. I wanted the best lathe I could afford (and had room for) and I chose his Deluxe. I wouldn't buy his mid-size for the same reasons I wouldn't buy one from Bassel, Unique or whoever else sells them...... its not what I want nor wanted. Oh, and my comment "not the epitomy of accuracy or rigidity" is just a general statement about these small lathes. Get yourself a Hardinge Toolroom lathe and you'll understand what I mean. Nothing was misrepresented to me.

And this is not a dig against Bassel. I believe I posted that I think his Toolbox Lathe is so cool it almost makes me want to do repair work just so I can justify buying it. I am going to build a 2nd lathe and I am sure some of the parts will come from him... I like his new carriage... even IF the gear falls off :) I can't imagine its all that hard to fix if it does.

Joe,
Please stop. Seriouslly... Do you think Bassel is here to make an easy buck? Or anybody else?
I had 2 bad PennState brand new motors and I didn't start a thread!
On the beginning i was not very familiar with how wood in general was cut and I used Google then I asked the questions.
Before I knew how to drill a straight hole I did my own experiments and talked to a local machinist and then talked to a few friends cuemakers closer to me, I did not start a thread.
I have 5 cues that I f#%*^up and they are right in the wall so I don't make the same mistake and that is not guaranteed. Nobody is perfect, but you need to do your own research and think 10 times before you start a thread. You accused Bassel of getting you a rusted chuck and the poor guy all he did was swap the motor. Do you think this looks good on you?
I helped you with a little something in the past and will again if need be. It is a way to pay back my bill towards other cuemakers that I bugged in the past.
Do your homework before you post something.

Tony, i think you should read the entire thread. If you want the rear chuck sleeve back, i will send it back. I offered to pay and offered to pay shipping and you refused. Just because you gave me a sleeve doesnt give you the right to come on here and insult me. If you read the thread and the pm i sent you, its about what he promised to do about it. And now he has changed his mind. Send me your address and i will ship your sleeve back tomorrow. As far as my hole thread, im pretty sure others learned something from that too. I dont know why you feel it is necessary to jump on me for stuff thats totally not related to my issues with Bassel, but its clear you have some kind of problem with me.

Joe

Here you go again. My post was in good faith and I do not want anything back.
I don't have anything against you at all. You just need to be smarter on your posts, that's all.

lathe

Bassell
Please put me on that list with Joe and Trent. I have seen the lathe you sent Joe, and feel that what he has said is 99.9% correct and factual. And since you brought up all the satisfied customers you have, has your customer from Switzerland been satisfied yet? Can I post the PM's I have recieved from him?

Did you also know that approximately 50 percent of all orangutans have fractured bones, a result of falling off of trees on a regular basis?
