New tip and ferrule job from OB cues ...

Sent my OB shaft to OB cues because the ferrule was cracked and asked them to replace it with a new one and a Kamui clear tip.
I did not want to do it because I did not have any of their carbon tip cap disks ... dont see one on here either.
This is what I got back today.
Called them about it and they kinda blamed it on the tip bleeding down ???

Is this what most of you cue makers would sell to your customers?
Is it acceptable?

So now I need to redo what I paid them to do ... are am I expecting to much?

Not the best job. I see you wrote you neededa carbon fibre pad? the classic shafts don`t need the carbon fibre pads.

That's how melamine ferrules are these days.
It has pits and will absorb that black dust unless you seal with multiple coats of CA.

Cleaned it up as best I could ... its a lot easier to keep the black stuff out to start with rather than try to clean it out later.
Ill work on it some tomorrow ... off to an 8 ball tourney tonight.

Perhaps I need to call them back and offer to teach them how to install a new ferrule ... LOL!

FWIW, when I put new tips on, I put a layer of carnuba wax on the ferrule before cutting off the old tip and facing off (obviously don't do it after or you risk getting wax on the glue surface). It seems to help a little removing the superglue squeeze out and tip shavings. As always, YMMV, but it's an old guitar trick we use when you have to wick superglue under a fret...any hardened glue on the fingerboard will basically just peel off. I could just be kidding myself, of course. :)

Prime example of why you sand from ferrule toward tip, and wipe ferrule toward tip. IMO that is a rookie job and is not what you should expect.

Replace it with Tomahawk...Problem solved. ;)

Wow I can't believe OB sent the ferrule looking like that back to you!

Does black melamine exist? I have the same issue as the OP with OB shaft ferrule material.

The problem is that I sent it to OB for a new tip and ferrule because I thought the material was something special that I would have difficulty getting.
I doubt they have tomahawk ferrule material ... if they did would it hit and feel the same?

Anyhow ... the problem has been resolved and my OB shaft is looking and playing great. (I really do think the OB shaft helps me shoot more accurately)
I dont expect everything and everyone to be perfect and mistakes do happen ...
heck even I make them ... LOL.
I would not hesitate to send another cue or shaft to OB for repair and am sure what I would get back would be quality workmanship.

Yea ...that's what I'd blame it on also if I didn't know WTF I was doing.

I've tried contacting OB three different times on three different contact methods about finding out what material they use, what's a good substitute or if I could buy ferrules from them with no replies. RIP Royce

Tomahawk

I have been using Tomahawk lately for LD Terre replacements. I like it. It performs well and takes on a brillia t lister - it also doesn't hold chalk. Just make sure you use sharp tooling.

Does anyone know how Predator and OB feel about using Tomahawk ferrules on thier shafts? Their opinion sought of matters, I would think.

You can't have it both ways. Either they butchered the job and made you pay for it, or they are awesome and have your complete confidence.

Haha.........."What we have here is a failure to communicate!" in my best Strother Martin voice.

Yes I can ... I can have it all ways.
True they did do a sub standard job and charged me for A+ work.
However ... I understand how mistakes can happen and have corrected it and moved on. I never intended to crucify them over one bad ferrule installation.

Love the way the OB cue plays ... However ... that is just my opinion and your mileage may vary.
