New Tip (sniper)

I got both of my shafts re-tipped with Snipers. The person doing the work said that they didn't have a lathe but he does a good job. I am not a perfectionist, took a look at them and thought they were fine.

Last night when playing, a couple people looked and said that it was not very good. That they were cone shaped instead of perfectly straight. When looking, you can see that yes they are cone shaped....

So, my question, will this affect anything? I am playing and they seem fine. No difference and I like the Sniper better then the old Everest tips. Next time I know to spend the extra and get them done with a lathe, but is there any affect on performance? I'm 95% sure there isn't, but hey, I might as well check here.
 
If you are not having any problem with the playability then I would just forget about the "cone" shape. It's just something else to get "into" your head when you're trying to concentrate on the game. Some people just go overboard on the perfectionist thing. I couldn't (or anybody else either) really comment on your tip without actually seeing it in person. If you thought it looked fine, then really, that's all that matters.
FWIW, if you decide the tip is too coned for your liking, then take about half of the tip down. You will also find that it actually plays better with this amount removed. Just my $.02!!!

Other then the look, is there any impact? I guess technically I could be playing with a slightly smaller diameter (12.6 instead of 12.75 or whatever)... but the tip is still a Sniper, it is not affected or anything.

But ya, next time, a person with a lathe.

Serious words of wisdom. The tip is the only thing that comes in contact with the CB "hopefully". Don't cut corners there by any means!
 
Many people that put on tips bevel the edge slighly inward. I do on all my tips including snipers. It helps maintain the shape and eliminates most of the trimming later. Its old school. Of course, it shouldn't look like a cone, just a slight angle inward.
 
If it's coned excessively it can cause miscues...with any layered tip the sides of the tip should be dead straight with the ferrule...I've gone through many layered tips and never have had one mushroom or flare out at the shoulder...

I request this be don with my Moori softs- keeps the re-trim need down to 1 per tip.
