I've been eyeing this cue forever now and I've finally purchased it! I have bought and sold many cues, but I feel this one will be a keeper.

The cue is balanced perfectly and I mean perfectly. It plays just stiff enough and doesn't squirt the cue ball too much. Tip size is just right at 12.75. The feedback is also very good, I can feel the resonance in my back hand upon solid contact. It also sounds great; not too high pitched, but not dead either. And lastly, the woods are gorgeous. No need to say any more. Enjoy!

Not trying to be smarta$$, but take this recommendation.

Don't ever sell it, I sold my Hagan (it went to China) and I have regretted it ever since.

It was a great playing cue, seldom do they come up for sale.

I should have kept it.

I recommend you hang on to that beauty.

JMO, I wish you the best of rolls.

Ken

Yep. I second that... Bill knew how to make a cue look different but recognizable. I alway liked his cues. They hit well too...

I will check for any seams tonight, I thought it was solid rosewood though. Definitely has koa points, which are wicked.

One ferrule is loose, so will be changing it back to antler. Other than that the cue is in great shape. I can't believe the thing has stayed straight for so long. Here's what it looked like pre-restoration.

It's tough to see the two seams .
Chechen is a rosewood .

The seller had it listed as ebony. I knew it was a rosewood, just not which species in particular. So thanks for the details! I always thought people hyped up rosewood a bit too much but with this cue, it lives up to it.

After talking to Bill, I made myself a laminated bubinga cue in two weeks .:eek:
It's still my house cue . Still straight .
I did not copy his straight taper though. I kept it fat at the joint/middle and made the handle slim .

Nice!!! They are great players. I own a few. Pretty sure the wood is macassar ebony, Hagan made quite a few cues with it. I have a chechem one and the hit is much higher pitched than the ebony. Give us some feedback after you've played some more with it.

So I've been playing with this for a while now and I'm quite happy about the cue overall. The only flaw I could find was at the butt sleeve section. Some small bits of the wood were chipped off before it was restored. These small chips were filled with epoxy and are not very noticeable.

Also, I was able to see the seam that Joey mentioned. Very tough to spot!

It's a very playable and approachable cue. It's not super "pingy" if you know what I mean, but it's not dead either like many old school cues. It's just stiff enough to provide solid feedback to the hand, and doesn't deflect the cue ball too much. Shit, I even played some snooker and 3c/balk line with this cue and it handled both the larger and smaller cue balls well. 12.75mm is the new 13 in my opinion.

I think this is my keeper cue. I got it at a good price and I don't really feel like selling it. Ever.

Thanks for the info! If you have the chance, could you post some pics of your chechen cue? If you have an ebony Hagan, please share as well. Curious to see the differences.

My pics are lousy...the two cues on the right.

Also, here is progress pic on the chechen cue. The wood looks quite a bit different from yours. That's black with white linen wrap sample over the wrap area. No handle, full length laminated butt.

Glad to see that you like the cue

As for the woods I'm pretty sure it is Madagascar Ebony, Koa points and ovals with Pink Ivory rings and inlays

At least that's what I've been told
