It also looked to me like Fats really wasn't trying hard. Too bad it couldn't have gone down to 14.1 and one pocket. Fats shouldn't have let Willie make all the rules.

Of course Willie was clearly the better player but Fats was no slouch based on the video. Both of them were well past their primes of course but could still handle the cue ball somewhat.

I loved the beginning of the 8 ball where Fats flashes the bankroll and say let's play some one snatch (on live TV!!) for 500 or 1000 a game. Willie said bet what you want on the match in progress.

I guess I am gong to need to read The Hustler and the Champ again for the backstories.

The promoter was Charlie Ursitti and he is still alive I think. He would know.

There are hundreds of people filling the rows of seats there...as it was back in those days for championships and match ups for the championship. Johnnyt

Lol ... that was hilarious. Then it looked like total pandemonium would ensue but Howard got things calmed down. Also loved when Cosell finally got Fats seated and patted him on the belly and said, "Now be a good boy."

For those who are relatively new to all the crazy rule changes, they happened to be playing "all fouls on the 8-ball is a loss." Brutal.

Nice catch swest ... I broke up when I saw that. Maybe if you read the fine print of all the rules Willie made it was OK for him to move the balls around. Imagine if Fats had seen that ... all hell would have broken loose. I'll tell ya' this video just keeps on giving. Really good stuff.
