Next Cue Recommendations

My experience with cues is a bit dated and limited, but I always thought Pechauers hit, feel, and look great for the money spent.
 
Go with Mezz, the best production cue out there. Great selection of shafts, chose united joint if you like a metal to metal 5/16x14 or wavy joint if you like a big pin wood to wood connection.
I recomend getting the WX900 shaft.
 
I think I am about to narrow the search down. Either the Predator LE-4 or a Bob Frey SP. Sent a couple of emails to the Frey website but am yet to receive a response. I do like the looks of the Predator LE-4, and I really haven't tried a LD cue very much so who knows.

"Uni-Loc" actually relates to 4 different joints, including the radial joint: http://uni-loc.com/uni-loc_contact.php

But some people use the term to refer only to the Uni-Loc original quick-release joint: http://uni-loc.com/uni-loc_joints_original.php. This is quite a high-precision joint, and some people have had trouble with it "locking" together when foreign substances get on the pin or the insert. If kept clean, it works well.
 
Choice was made and bought. Predator LE-4 RoadLine is on its way. ETA is Saturday, 28 Feb. Just in time for me birthday.

Curious to see if I notice any difference with this LD cue/shaft. I guess if I don't like it there is always Ebay. But I like to keep cues just to look at them so I probably wont ever sell it. I just hope the joint on this cue is better than the other wood to wood joints I have had in the past. Hopefully that phenolic insert will help in that regard.

Nice pick, those models are some of my favorites from Predator although I don't like how most of their shafts feel.

Why don't you like the large pin wood joints? To me those provide the best feel.

Every wood to wood jointed cue I have ever had always comes loose at the joint. If this would have been a true/pure wood to wood joint I wouldn't have bought it.

I'd call Steve Lomax and see if he can't build you a plain Jane cue for around your price point.

I've played with many of the R-360 Cuetecs, having recommended them for years, and indeed with the specific model Shane uses. They all play just about identically in that whole R-360 series -- which is to say: absolutely terrific. I also like all their wrap and wrapless options in that series. Very powerful, yet sensitive cues (if I may use those essentially hard to define terms). You'll know it when you feel them.

The reviews on Amazon are very much on-target, and I share the view expressed therein by the guy who called them "sleepers." Extreme bang for the buck -- always have been IMO.

I ended up getting the R360 cue. I have definitely liked it. It is certainly better than the cues I was shooting with- a 50 year old Schmelke (not a bad cue- an older neighbor gave it to me- it is just very heavy and has a very wide tip diameter) and a beat up Dufferin.

One question I have is that it says on the packaging that the weight is adjustable. I am happy with the weight the way it is, but I don't really understand how the weight could be adjustable.

Doesn't it have a weight bolt system in the butt of the cue? If I recall you take the bumper off and unscrew the weight bolt and add/subtract however you wish.

I could be way off though.

Typically, under the rubber bumper lives a weight bolt that can be removed to lighten cue and also may be changed for lighter or heavier one.

I'm not familiar with cuetech's setup but this is what is usually found.

I play with a Mcdermott I like, and even adding the costs of the extra OB and Predator shafts I picked up (ob was used, predator was new), it only came out to just a hair over $500
 
With a budget of $550.00 you can get a decent cue, the kicker is your time line, now long will you wait. Someone mentioned Onley and I can't speak from any thing other than one cue but mine is a great player and for the money a good deal. Another option maybe Pat Diveney.
 
You'll probably get more recommendations here than Quaker has oats, but here's one you can add to the list. Try the Schon STL-5, with a Schon/Predator shaft.
This little jewel plays like a champion and can be had at a reasonable price. :)
 
Just bought an ob cue model 127 with ob1+ shaft, coming from a Lucas sneaky Pete, I couldn't be any happier.
 
You guys are too late. You need to read Post #26. Predator LE-4 Roadline cue. Never had a Predator, curious as to how it will perform.

All you mentioned are good cues. Buy the one that calls out to you, that's the one you will want to play with. Not one somebody else likes. If you can not play good pool with the cues you mentioned, it's because you don't know how to play pool, not the cues fault.

I went with a rat custom, though I think his spec cues at muellers are also great looking. I've not heard one bad thing about his cues, and have heard a ton of positives.

Would fit your budget, and I think from the people that I know that like them you'd enjoy it.
