Who is the next Gus Szamboti of cuemakers, excluding Barry Szamboti? I wanna know who makes a solid consistent hitting cue, also extremely well built. I'm seeking information.

That would be Ling Chou Lucasi maker of Lucasi custom cues.
He is the senior cue maker at the Lucasi shop in China.
He is 16 years old and will only get better with time.
Collect Lucasi cues. You heard it here first.

There are literally HUNDREDS of folks/companies that make solid hitting cues with great quality.

Very few can do what Gus did. He was WAY ahead of everyone when he passed. How about using Gus's words, back in the mid 80's Gus was asked who he thought was a good cue maker and one to watch and his answer as "Pete Da' Cop".. That's Pete Tascarella for those who don't know Pete's nickname...

I'd venture to guess Eric Crisp of Sugartree. Some of the wood he uses is unbelievable looking and his recut/point work is phenomenal.

Otherwise Leon Sly. I have heard a couple makers say Leon Sly makes the sharpest points out of any maker in the industry.

I vote for Guido Orlandi.. he makes the most sophisticated cue that money can buy. His new Conical Joint & "totally to max adjustable Cue" is the bees knees. His work is amazing & I've been playing for 57 years.

If you want a cue to make the ball with, he's your man. If you want something pretty, with 200 inlays, go somewhere else.

There are several guys making solid consistent, well built cues. That being said, there is no next Gus.. (or George). They existed in a different era in time. They were in on the ground floor... Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth might not always hold records, but there will never be another one of them. Until they event a time machine.

I'd say Pete Tascarella... he's doing very nice work, very classic designs in the Gus and George B. tradition.

Having said that, and owning a Gus, there will only be one Gus Szamboti, just like there's only one George and one Tad... little bits of skill and knowledge they took with them.

Tony Scianella, although his cues now cost as much or more than Gus' cues

That's if you buy from him directly. I'd venture to guess the resale value is not much higher (if not LOWER) than original purchase price.

The answer to the OP's original question is TONS of cuemakers. If you're looking for someone who consistently does quality work, you're looking at a list of at least 50 guys. If you're looking for the super-elite, that list is smaller.

If you're looking for someone who's cues might appreciate in value on the same scale, my guess is no one.

^^^^^^^ This.

One man that you might want to discuss this with is Dick Abbott... he is a connoisseur of fine cues

www.billiardcue.com

BilliardCue.com is the premier website featuring custom & collectible billiard instruments. Introduced in 1997, today 18 years later BilliardCue.com is still going strong.

Unless you got to hit with hundreds of cues your not qualified to answer the question and even then what hits good to one person is shit to another

the best ?

Matter of opinion. I believe no one then or now make a better cue than Ernie G. (Gina), or Bob Runde (Rundes). Quality or Playability.

Fully agree - hundreds of goord makers around. Tasc is an option. For me: Ed Prewitt is the man. Solid cue, super quality ... and there will be no depreciation in value, his output ist just too low to flood the market ;.)

The OP didn't mention cost. Though as mentioned a lot build a solid cue BUT very few do it as well as Gus and NO ONE'S cues are comparable in value to G. Szams which are still the king of investment by far. Especially the more fancy cues which there are only about 150 ( out of a total of about 1,100 cues ).... Seems like a lot for around 18 years but it's not for how much Gus worked.
